OT in London?

Hello,
My DD had an assessment at the London Children's practice this morning with an OT. She recommended that OT would be good for her, but I cannot make Wednesdays which is the only day she works there.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone? I am in North East London and the OT this morning thought she was displaying dyspraxic symptoms and she is has sensory processing issues in that she is hypo sensitive.

Thanks

Can you get a referral to GOSH, they have a good OT there at the Neurodisabilities Dept, who deals with children with complex OT needs resulting from multiple dx.

There's Lynda Shaw, who was recommended to me and has been very good with my son, but she's all the way over in Wimbledon so probably a bit far for you!

I haven't even got a referral to our local NHS OT. She causes no problems to anyone and therefore doesn't seem to get much help.

Thanks Warmandfuzzy - wimbledon is a bit far. It is hard to find the time with working part time and nursery to go to.

I'll keep searching.

Hi, If you can get a referral to the www.royalfree.nhs.uk/paed_OT.aspx?top_nav_id=1&tab_id=897 they have an excellent department and do Sensory Integration as well. If private www.hopscotchtherapy.co.uk/ are very good. The books by Carol Kranowitz are also very helpful in particular www.amazon.co.uk/Out---Sync-Child-Has-Fun/dp/0399532714/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1347492771&sr=8-3

You don't say how old your DD is, but causing problems to others or not, this could very well cause problems for her as she grows up. This alone would mean that you should speak with your GP for a referral, they aren't always happy with a 'private' dx, but that's tough, and its saved the NHS some money.
You'll get no-where without pushing, but push you must if you believe there is enough reason for your daughter to recieve help - which must be the case or you'd never have had her seen by an OT in the first place!
Sometimes its just a matter of having to take time off - not fair, but a reality. We live near the south coast, but have to travel to GOSH and St Thomas' for our OT as no one here is able/willing to take on 'complex' dx'd children.
Good luck and I hope you are able to get the help you need.x
