Aggh, next door had parked 3 quarters of the way over our Disabled space yesterday.

How rude and ignornant

I didnt have Ellie with me but that is beside the point
I can't see how they can do that (I had to park over the road) and then say "Hello" nicely to me this morning

I would be so embarrased

I think they see that we can all walk so why do we need the space, but they do know about Ellie

that kind of thing really annoys me i would say something if they do it again.Angry

Blu · 17/03/2006 12:16

I would say something before this becomes a real big issue. Just remind them in a freindly way that it is really hard when you have Ellie and have to park over the rd.

But yes, very very ignorant and inconsiderate.

anniebear · 17/03/2006 12:40

he does it quite a bit, but never that far. He always tries to squash it if if there is a car in front of him, he is often over it

Angry

If I had Ellie in the car and had DH, he may have said somehing but not me!!lol

Just don't know how he can do it then never looked embarrased!!!

Just wanted to add a toally unbiased opinion. Neither I nor anyone in my family is disabled. And I know that this is definately rude. You should say something (politely of course).

butty · 17/03/2006 12:45

i'm having the same problem with my new next door neighbours!!!!!!!!

it is really beginning to pi** me off.

I went round and explained to them about dylan and why it is important that i park outside my house, they don't seem to care!!!!!!!!

Everyday, it is the same, i have to park miles from the house and it is a real pain getting both kids to the car of a morning.

I have a disabled tax disc, and they have said that i can put a sign in my window to say disabled parking, but i dont want willy nilly knowing about my family IYKWIM!!!!

i really can sympathise with you!!!!!!!!

anniebear · 17/03/2006 12:46

Do you not have a disabled space Butty?

OP posts:
butty · 17/03/2006 12:49

No, they said that i couldn't have one as a terraced street with limited parking, and then they kindly sent me the poster to put in my window about not parking in front of my house due to disability!!!!!!!!!!

right, thats a shame

what horrible neighbours. Thats really awful.

Is Dylan in a wheelchair (sorry have a bad memory)

If it is really bad and you struggle, I would consider a sign on the window, although I can understand you not wanting to and if your neighbours are that selfish they may ignore it anyway

Can't you get somebody to put a sign on the wall in front of your house?

Butty - that's barmy - of the council, I mean! It's BECAUSE of things like terrace housing with limited parking that you NEED a space! Have you talked to your local Councillor - and MP if necessary?

getbakainyourjimjams · 17/03/2006 15:44

local councils vary. Our local council won't let you have a space if you have a disabled child- only disabled adults can apply.

butty · 20/03/2006 10:20

Sorry i've only just got back to you about the situ!!!!

Dylan is not in a wheelchair, although we have just recieved a mjor buggy for him.

He can walk 15 - 20 steps in total but he is very unstable and has a helmet for this reason.

he has never walked outside of the house on his own and is totally reliant on me for this.(we never get very far)

I have been told that he will more than likely need support for walking throughout his life due to the very poor muscle tone from the truncal down.

The neighbours have seen that i have problems with him getting in and out of the car and he also a fairly big lad which makes it more difficult!!!!!

Even if i did put a sign in the window, they would ignore it, as would other people!!!!

It so hard to get parked on my street, and then half the residents on there have 2 cars!!!!!

We have 2 cars, but my partner parks round the corner at all times due to the lack of parking and giving me priority!!!!!

Just so fed up with it all!!!!!!!!

anniebear contact streetscene for advice but i have had similar probs
if you have left the space open anyone can park on it
have a polite word if you can

our disabled space is outside the driveway which is enclosed by 2 double gates
neighbours still park on it and are a pita
sometimes i cant get the car out of the drive
and have to go knocking on doors ooh and as early as poss to get the car out one it was 7.00am in the morning
if it is causing an obstruction outside your driveway and your car is in the drive you can phone the police
this is the next stage for me as i am sick of asking neighbours to move their cars

Davros · 20/03/2006 20:28

anniebear, I have a phone number I can ring 24 hours a day and they will tow away anyone obstructing the disabled bay or using it without a permit. Ask your Council for the equivalent number, it goes direct to the company that enforce parking. Mind you, just thought, we have all that back up because we live in an area with controlled parking so sending out a warden or towing lorry is par for the course, they're happy to do it, maybe that's not the case where you are? One measly benefit!

anniebear · 21/03/2006 10:04

Thanks

Wouldn't want to cause trouble witht he Neighbours thouhg

Although I would love to watch his face as his car got towed away lol lol

They are moving hopefully, the new neighbours may be worse!!!!
