I don't know either, but it claims to be part of autism awareness, doesn't it?
Seller seems to have autistic child, and is obviously keen to raise awareness, so should we e-mail her to ask? Or shall we just be really chicken and lurk here to see if someone else answers for us?

BadHair · 17/03/2006 00:21

On balance I'm in favour of skulking round here to find out.

misdee · 17/03/2006 00:21

i know its for autism awareness, but am trying to get head what my excuse may be Grin

Presumably what's your excuse for the massive tantrum your child just performed, your general rudeness towards me when my child had a tantrum, the fact that you look really tired? Could be anything.

misdee · 17/03/2006 00:26

hmmmm, i'm not sure i could wear that t-shirt (dd2 suspected ASD, she certainly has a few traits). what about 'what you looking at?' teehee.

Prefer the "What are you looking at" one. Or " We all have Bad Days, this is mine".

is a nice one

Agree with threebob, think it means my child is autistic, what's your excuse for your child behaving badly etc.

Very simplistic and quite rudely agressive when you think about it but I expect those who buy it just think they are having a joke and don't mean any harm. There must be more friendly ways to raise awareness, surely?

NotQuiteCockney · 17/03/2006 08:41

I would assume it was: my child is autistic, and that is why they are doing something "inappropriate". What is your excuse for your (not your child's) "inappropriate" behaviour (e.g. telling me off for my child's behaviour?)

It's funny, but a bit rude.

getbakainyourjimjams · 17/03/2006 08:56

It's directed at those people who appear to be sucking lemons whenever you go near them with your autistic child. You know- my child's behaving inappropriately because he's autistic, what's your excuse for being a lemon sucking miserable old trout? Personally I wouldn't wear it, but I do sometimes feel like saying something similar.

macwoozy · 17/03/2006 09:01

It is making a point if not a bit aggressively. I've bought some badges of this ebay shop, not so in your face like a tshirt. I plan to use the 'Autistic Escape Artist' one for when we go abroad.

misdee · 17/03/2006 09:04

pmsl@ lemon sucking.

my excuse for my cikd behaving badly? one may be ASD, one is just a cow Wink 6yr olds can be awful Grin

I agree with that Misdee, that's why I like the badge from that shop that says 'I'm not just naughty I'm autistic too'.

misdee · 17/03/2006 09:14

i do think its rather aggressive. I am all for eductation people, but does it have to be so rude?

right i am off to harefield. sorry if i have offended anyone.

The other aspect of it I don't like is that it seems to take for granted that the autistic child is going to be displaying "naughty" behaviour.

coppertop · 17/03/2006 09:31

I don't like it tbh but I suppose it depends on how much contact you have with lemon-sucking old trouts. :o Presumably if you get the nasty comments and stares everytime you venture out then this would be the T-shirt for you. Then again, it's not the parent/care that's going to be wearing it, is it? Hmmmm....
