Medical records from birth

Does anyone know how I can get hold of my DS's medical report of my labour and his birth. I want a record of the labour and his birth and his apgar scores. He was born December 2005- would this info still be held?

Yes. I just rang up the hospital and they sent me an invoice to pay for photocopying. Once I paid that I got all his records.

Can I just comment that they may not be as accurate and contain as much information as you would like. A friend took the hospital to court over her notes as they had been 'tampered' with - and she had only wanted them to give to a hospital for her second pregnancy (abroad).
My notes from my 1st did not contain many of the elements that went wrong. For example, it did not mention that the oxytocin drip (sp) had been inserted wrong for more than 6 hours and was just swelling my arm. It did not mention that DS1s head was stuck and during cs they struggled to get his head back out. DH was at the birth - and even he remembered the struggle.
Very basic information was included.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I will write to the hospital.

the reason I am wanting them is because we have an appointment with an aetiologist. We were referred by my son's ADHD consultant after a discussion about possible causes of ADHD/autism.

I have always had a concern that my son;s birth has a lot to answer for in explaining his current problems. He was a 55 hour labour. The second stage lasted 3 to 4 hours before I was examined by obstetrician and put into theatre for a forceps delivery. It was implied to me by the ob and midwives afterwards that I should have had a c section but they were short staffed. My poor son stopped breathing for about 2 minutes at birth which I believe was down to shock and extended labour.

I thought active stage labour wasn't meant to extend beyond 1 to 2 hours before an examination by an obstetrician so i think they were negligent in allowing me to labout so long.

I have read that ADHD can be caused by loss of oxygen as the regions of the brain involved in ADHD are particularly vulnerable if oxygen is lost.

I realise I am probably on a hiding to nothing with this but the appointment with an aetiologiust has made me even more cross about his birth and determined to pursue it.

my second stage was 5 hrs, it was my first child so i had no idea how wrong and dangerous that was - my son has dyslexia

I was given mine to read before discharge on both my girls. I'm pretty sure it wasn't documented that the doctor was rude and aggressive and left dd1 with a heart rate of 200+ before another doctor decided c section was a good idea. It also commented that the doc "felt unwell so another consultant was called back to preform the c section", but I know he went on to proform another three c sections that night! Hmm
