Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

So do you think the paralympics will change anything?

Facilities/attitudes/opportunities?

I think sadly not, especially if some of the recent threads are anything to go by :(

Dunno, friend's NT child asked her a load of questions today abt the statemented lad (new boy) in his class and she was able to answer him without umming and aahing.

She said: We're all different, a mixture of abilities and disabilities is likely to be the new boy's experience, you have strengths and weaknesses too, some differences can require a lot (or a little) extra help or equipment. Just like in the paralympics. son understood.

I doubt she'd have come up with much without them.

Seems to have given people license to talk about disability which is good. On a personal level, I've found a lot of people have recently asked me about dd and her difficulties rather than pretending they can't see her! Agree that it may not change anything longer term although hopefully there will be less general, unthinking support for cuts and changes to support for the disabled (here's hoping!).

Those people who are bigoted won't be watching or taking any notice of the paralympics anyway Sad

Well the little girl next door has obviously been watching the Paralympics and asked me if DS will have to do sports day races in a wheelchair cos he's DIFFABLED lol
We had a lovely chat about how some disabled people don't need wheelchairs just a bit of extra help ect
She's only 5 so it was lovely that she was asking questions about DS that ignorant adults wouldnt take the time to ask.DS has autism and runs faster than anyone I know so maybe putting him on a wheelchair would give the NT kids a chance of winning at sports day.lol

DS says, wheelchairs are a disadvantage in the sprint but they always win the London Marathon. He wants to see a wheelchair rugby v. Saracens match though Hmm
