Friday night thread!

StarlightMcKenzie · 07/09/2012 11:55

Thought the rule was that the Fri night thread starts when the first glass of wine is drunk......

Ds (5) went off to school on his second day, the first time using LA transport. To say I am shaky is the understatement of the century. To make matters worse, the usual escort (who we met yesterday at pick up in my attempt to arrange some sort of transition plan) was off sick this morning and the driver has a hospital appointment this afternoon so it will be a different driver and car.

Have a few new pieces of marble run for him when he gets home and we'll have omelette as he cracks eggs as a de-stress activity Hmm

star was a genuine 'yay' for your ds' new friend, not snidey? Yes, bloke checked with manager, and I was too stressed and embarrassed by then - ds3 disappeared again, ds1 and 2 touching more stuff too far away to get to.
They are all upstairs in disgrace. They don't really care tbh. I keep hoping ds1 might set an example one day but no chance. In some ways he is getting worse. Ds3 is really clumsy (we know why) but really feel like shite mother that my dcs touch stuff and pick I up. 2 perfect girls did fish buying wih no incident watsover.

moosemama · 07/09/2012 18:29

I was grumping complaining the other day that I have to do four school runs on Thursdays this year (thanks to them shoving dd in afternoons for nursery and ds1 having an after school club) but I shall count my blessings now.

signandsmile · 07/09/2012 18:38

blimey we started early!, hi to all, sending good thoughts to transport/fish/residentiual trip stressed mums...

Moose, would love a chocolate brownie.... (sign sighs hopefully) Im about to open the cider...

Ds has had a good week, yay! Grin and we seem to have another good TA, (phew) I mentioned he didn't have a home school book and next day one appeared in his bag, filled in with what he had been doing, (and she came to check that was the sort of info I was hoping for) I spent the last year plying the last TA with my bread pud, bunped into this years one in the supermarket where she was buying shortbread... (I can see my nans short bread reciepe coming in handy Grin Grin)

StarlightMcKenzie · 07/09/2012 19:19

Mine was genuine too. Considering asking her to babysit. Seems to have more common sense than the taxi driver anyhow!

evening all

status quo chez UnChartered

honking to all those who need it and for those who've had successful weeks

notactuallyme · 07/09/2012 19:23

Oh good! I've been avoiding sen board, and thought I'd upset someone on my first go back! My dd (nt) is about to start babysitting and she's 13. It is a relief to know there's someone nice on board with him. Hi sign - glad you are another with a good week.

I think I'm so upse becuase it was meant to be fun.

moosemama · 07/09/2012 19:27

They do have pecans in though, so don't touch it if you can't eat nuts.

I can't have them thanks to my stomach problems, so there are plenty to go around.

Glad your ds has had a good start to the new school year. It makes such a difference having good TAs etc doesn't it.

moosemama · 07/09/2012 19:30

I get it not. It's horrible when you plan a treat and it all goes pear shaped and ends badly. Been there, done that - ad infinitum.

Never mind, onwards and upwards. Maybe you can make a big deal out of setting the tank up instead? Less pressure being at home etc.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 07/09/2012 19:40

Hi again, back from Chiquitos where we had a successful meal out. I have to say it is getting easier chez EllenJane. I know what works and I've given up pushing DS2 to do 'stuff' that others find easy but he hates and life is so much more pleasant. It helps that DS1 (14) is old enough to babysit so if I want to take DS3 swimming, for instance, I can do it and leave the older ones at home. It's only DS1 who misses out a bit, no 1:1 time with him Sad

Anyway, nice meal out and so what if DS2 (12) had his usual plain burger and chips and spent most of the meal holding on to my hair and flicking it into my face! Grin

Sorry you had a less successful trip out, not.

Lougle · 07/09/2012 19:44

At least we're all exhausted, hey? Grin

I'm having to do DH's work run 4 times per day

06.45 - bundle girls into car to take him
09.00 - bundle DD3 into car to pick up
3.15 - bundle DD2 & DD3 into car to take him
6.00 - bundle DD1, DD2 & DD3 into car to pick up.

notactuallyme · 07/09/2012 19:47

Thank you - it's really nice to mention this stuff where people 'get' it. DS really doesn't understand some stuff; and middle ds has had his trip ruined. its hard when younger nt kids don't get ds1 and just think he's messing around or being naughty.
Pecan brownies sound nice - how did you come to bake them if you can't eat them?
Ellen - i am v jealous of your trip out. Mine will be paying the castle off for a long time....

AgnesDiPesto · 07/09/2012 19:48

Ok finally glass of wine in hand. Phew.
Hi to everyone new and old.
We have had an amazing week. I know the novelty will wear off but DS had a dream week at school. His language really come on over the summer, his new teachers (job share) actually bother to talk to him, and listen to and even ask his ABA 1:1 for advice...and then actually follow it Shock. One was even using DS friendly 'ABA speak' by the end of the first day! If only this could all have happened a year ago. He wowed the TA with his reading (ok understanding is 2 years behind). He answered 2 questions from other children about where he had been on holiday. His peers for small group decided they wanted to play hide and seek which handily is DS's new target game - and they taught him a game called 'toilet flush tig' which he finds hilarious (its like stuck in the mud only you stick your arm out for it to be 'flushed') which he picked up on the first day.Only down side is annual review is round the corner - not sure they would be too impressed their money is being spent teaching DS to imitate a toilet Grin.

moosemama · 07/09/2012 19:51

Glad you had a nice meal Ellen.

not I baked them for dd's nursery home visit yesterday. I wanted to distract the teachers from the disaster that is my house. Blush I think it worked - at least they didn't look horrified and they certainly scoffed the brownies fast enough. Grin

Wish me luck, just about to eat something other than porridge for the first time in a fortnight - only bland soup, but seems like luxury! Grin

PurplePidjin · 07/09/2012 19:59

Lougle, dp works 5 miles away and it's a nice easy cycle ride. Is that an option for you?

Envy of those drinking Sad

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 07/09/2012 20:01

Oh dear, moose. Missed your poorlyness. (sp) Hope the soup has a restorative effect.

Agnes, toilet flush tig! Sounds great fun. Better than the 'squishies' game that DS2 used to play from Captain Underpants that involved ketchup sachets and toilet seats...

Lougle, I hope your MOT failure isn't terminal?

StarlightMcKenzie · 07/09/2012 20:07

Ooh Agnes, that sounds fab.

I'm still finding I very difficult to reconcile the fact that one LA was claiming they had got Ds up to average with OT and SALT to the extent he had no SALT or OT needs and just required 'access to' TA in a ms, - and a different LA found him so severe with needs of extensive OT and SALT such that he couldn't be catered for in either MS or their own SS, and therefore needed out of borough Indi SS!

It's only really today that I've been able to look back on he past 3 years with any detachment and I think I'm going into shock! Shock

OP posts:
notactuallyme · 07/09/2012 20:11

Omg moose really hope you enjoy it. Thank god we don't have nursery home visits! Far too stressful as any attempt to silence ds1 is usually a bad idea. Far better to let him interrogate the guests or me about the guests in front of them.

Agnes - hope it lasts.

AgnesDiPesto · 07/09/2012 20:17

Star it must be odd not having to fight after all that time.
I guess when my LA pull the funding I can come and move where you are Grin.
Our LA / outreach told us DS was so mild he would not even need much 1:1 in m/s - and then the paed told us he had never seen such a severely affected child, all in the space of a few days. I think thats when I realised that we were now existing in some SN sci fi world where nothing was based on reality.

bialystockandbloom · 07/09/2012 20:22

Evening everyone, not too late to join in I hope?

StarlightMcKenzie · 07/09/2012 20:22

Not, no - I'm not upset. Good to have you back. I don't know your reasons for avoiding recently but if it was due to any differences opinion then please don't let that send you away.

I understand it can be hard to be heard with long time posters etc. but I think one of my biggest strengths, and I developed it here, is to receive criticism and take time over it and still stay. It's uncomfortable but It's made me stronger than ever.

Equally don't be afraid to challenge people as that will help them formulate their arguments for the real world, which is ultimately where it really matters.

And finally, if none of this is relevant please don't be insulted!!!!!!! Grin

OP posts:
moosemama · 07/09/2012 20:27

Ellen Shock at the squishies game!

Not so much a poorly as a side-effect. I got gastritis from the blooming anti-inflammatories I had for my broken foot. Doh!

Well the soup has gone down and I'm not in agony - which I suppose is a good sign. Grin

notactuallyme · 07/09/2012 20:30

Hahahaha star its like talking in code! Poss relevant, but in any case you are lovely!
agnes what a confusing way to hear stuff abou your ds! That's mad!
bialy et al- I have to go update dh (just in) on the fish situation. Will say goodnight, and pour an x large Wine
See u next week x

signandsmile · 07/09/2012 20:41

thanks for the brownie moose,

i have a new phrase for my "weirdest DS coment" list,

Me "a telgraph pole"
