My son was diagnosed with ASD early at about 20 months old and as such I pushed and got funding for inclusion in mainstream nursery, reception and upto April in Year 1. However the school senco are now trying to say that he may no long meet the same criteria as he had for funding in the first place. However, his fine motor skills are delayed and he has been assessed by OT who have written a report stating he needs assistance with writing and also needs short bursts of learning due to his lack of attention. He also gets very anxious and emotional with change and has a very small circle of friends and is now moving to an area where he is a huge potential for bullying, he cant stand up for himself if someone hits him, nips him etc and he gets very distressed if someone was to verbally upset him, What can I do? does he need Statementing? I am really concerned, as when he went round for an afternoon visit to the larger playground, he ended up running and hiding and his older sister had to take him to a playground assistant!!

Yes - definitely apply for an assessment that may lead to a Statement now - especially if the SENCO is threatening to withdraw his additional support.

This is the problem with all support a child receives without a Statement - it can be withdrawn at any time. With a Statement all support is protected by law.
