Hi, dd2 was three last week and is starting preschool next Wednesday and I'm terrified!!! School got me to sign a form for early years action plus to get her a 1:1 but I've heard nothing about who it will be. She has no dx but awaiting an ados. I'm soooo terrified for her :( she has a button phobia, doesn't play with other kids and is vvvvv anxious!!

Loud noises scare her and today she was totally mute for over half hour because a balloon burst. She's so sensitive :(

She keeps saying if she doesn't like it then she will walk home!!!!! We only live across the road and ages a runner so very feasible that this could happen.

School said bring her in say goodbye and go however I just can't leave her if she's screaming :( she enjoyed (sort of) the intro sessions but I was with her the whole time. It will be much different when I have to leave her. Any advice or anyone about to go through the same??

Can you lurk out of sight in an office with a cup of tea? Make sure that they know, if she gets properly upset, that it's best to call you rather than let her 'get used to it,' etc.

Repeat after me, 'She will be fine!' Smile

You don't have to leave her, do what feels right for you and your dd. It does mean you sometimes have to grow a very thick skin if you aren't doing what people want you to do, but you know your dd better than anyone else.

Perhaps observe the first few sessions? So the staff are interacting with her and you are stood at the sidelines. Has she got a 1:1 but you don't know who it is?

Also, can you go through photos of te classroom with her and pictures of the staff? This really helps my ds when he goes somewhere new. The hard work is really in the prepartion then, when he gets there it's largely automatic. Even if he's nervous he knows already what will happen so he goes with it.

Thanks guys. Ellen I think I may have to lurk!red, I don't know!! All school said was they will def give her a 1:1 and got me to sign a form for SA plus stating her needs that was few months ago and its not been mentioned since. She will never not ever manage on her own :( will sort out some pics tomoz as I have some.

Mind you I'm not managing knowing my baby is growing up!! How sad :(

Chundle, some of what you are feeling is the same for everyone, NT or SN, it's just made more intense when SN are in the mix. Large glass of Wine is in order!

Chundle feel for you as I'm in the same boat. It's good they promised 1:1!! Observe and see...Well I know it's easy to say. My ds is very delayed, also awaiting Ados and not sure what support he will get..I applied for statutory assesment last week, as his needs are severe and complex, are you going to apply too?
I can just see situations like kids are sitting down with a snack and drinks and my ds comes and throws all drinks and food on the floor with a lovely laugh ( developemntal age maximum 18 months) ..I'm petrified by it all.
One advice I got from ds therapist was to ask preschool to write every day little note on what he was doing, how he reacted..in case of tantrums/anxieties to be able to trace the trigggers and teach him how to react next time / or avoid the situations.
Good luck, hopefully it will be ok for our kids, and come back to tell.

Yes loads of wine Ellen!!!

Babki glad I'm not alone! Dd is abover average in several areas but at 18 month old for social and self care. She can't drink out of open top cup (pours it on floor!) And won't touch food someone else gives her.everything goes in her mouth and she's clumsy. I panic about all the what ifs!! What if she falls outside and badly hurts herself, what if she hits another kid...

Yes Chundle, same here for food and drink... Well hopefully the teachers have some experience and will know how to deal with it all...
