DD (NT) is desperate to go to DLP.

I know there are people here who have taken children with SN to DLP and I need some reassurance it will be okay.

So come and share your stories and convince me we can do this.

I should say that its my DS2 (5) who has SN (ASD)

Why wouldn't it be Ok?

Vagaceratops · 29/08/2012 13:47

He hates crowds
He hates people dress up in costumes
He is really funny about what he eats, so that we have to take food with us, as well as 'his' drinking bottle, which is the only thing he drinks from.

But I do think he would enjoy it, and DD would love it. We have been to Alton Towers on a quiet day and he had a brilliant time.

I just get really anxious about it, especially if its so far away we cant just turn round and leave.

We went last year, was absolutely amazing and DS2 (ASD) had a great time.

Does your DS have a mac major? if not, you can hire prams there which are massive and would easily fit a 5 year old in, would make him feel more secure? I fit 3 kids in at one point and it was ok to push.

You can also get special access passes with proof of disability which means no queueing in the crowds and you get on the ride at your own pace before everyone else.

We had an amazing time in may. Ds struggles with noise, queues etc but we got by without even having an sen pass. I believe they are really accommodating about passes so you need not queue. We stayed in the park and if you can afford it I would say book the Disneyland hotel. We did 4 nights at the New York hotel and if we go again it will be for fewer nights and the Disney hotel.
Our dc's loved meeting the characters and getting autographs but the french kids don't queue to meet them so ds got really upset. Best solution for us was a horribly expensive meal (fab food) at the inventions restaurant where characters come to your table. Was brilliant, the kids got to chat at their own pace rather than having to push and shove. If you stay at the Disneyland hotel you get that service at breakfast every day.
Park hotels are great for an evening swim and chill out if the park gets too hectic.

5inthebed · 29/08/2012 13:53

If you stop at a Disney hotel you get an extra 2 hours in the park before it gets busy.

Also with the SN passes you don't hve to queue to meet the characters.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 29/08/2012 13:54

X posts. Strike everything about characters. He would hate all that. Will he eat the dreaded McDonald's? Ds ate there twice and had pizza the other days. Otherwise he survived on chunks of bread

5inthebed · 29/08/2012 13:55

We paid extra to have breakfast at cafe Mickey which was great as the characters come to your table to greet the kids throughout the meal. DS2 loved this as it was far more relaxed than the park.

LisaD123 Has just been, hopefully she will see this thread and give you some pointers.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 29/08/2012 13:55

The prams are great and kids up to age about 8 are in them throughout the park

wasuup3000 · 29/08/2012 14:02

Are the dress up characters everywhere out of interest or just pop up occasionally as at Alton Towers?

shoppingbagsundereyes · 29/08/2012 14:17

They were on strike for the first three days we were there :)
You could easily avoid them in the street and at the parade they are at a safe distance away. Parade is beautiful, would be a real shame if you coudn't go to that.

Vagaceratops · 29/08/2012 14:23

Thanks everyone.

I just need to find a time where it wont be too busy!

Def go mid week. We were there term time mon- fri and by thurs it was unpleasantly busy, I imagine weekends are grim. I would go and just stay Monday and tues nights. Our 4 night stay was far too long. Kids were still enjoying it but dh and I were disneyed out

Vagaceratops · 29/08/2012 14:34

We would have to go in holiday time - DS1's school (secondary) is so funny about having time off in term time.

if you get a special access pass with proof of SN can everyone use it? What about your dc with no pass?

Vagaceratops · 29/08/2012 16:03

I wondered that too Corny.

There is a specific amount who can accompany on each ride, differs on each ride. The smaller rides iirc were 3/4 extra not including the person with SN.

The only thing that annoyed me with the pass was that the person with SN could only have one carer in the special area for the parades, although maybe allowances made if you're going by yourself and no toher adult but had other children.

Vagaceratops · 30/08/2012 12:38

Thanks :)

It still seems a bit scary but we might just do it :)
