DS is nearly 5 and is curently at the beginning of assessments - he saw the paediatrician last wk, and she's referring him tophysio, OY and S&L therapist for further asessments. He's on school action plus at the moment and will start reception after Easter, going full-time. He has dyspraxic and Asperger traits and whether or not these will ever be severe enough to be diagnosed I don't know. The paed. said we had cause to be concenrned but that she thought it was mild. She talked re. social communication difficulties...DH works in CAMHS so we feel we know something but I'm really looking for a book that will tell me about Aspergers and give me strategies on how to deal with some of DS' vbehaviour. The fine'gross motor skils is covered by school but his social comm. difficulties are at times subtle but can be tricky to handle - eg. roaring at people, insisting on directing play and getting angry when others won't follow, refusal to wear certain clothes, over-reacting to tiny things like dropping his carrot - the list goes on. It sounds trivial but is hard to handle at times and worse when he's stressed ot tired.
There are so many books on the market I thought I'd ask the knowledgable mumsntters for some ideas.
I saw the paed. last Fri. and felt ok. Y'day and today I feel awful and so sad.

Hi, sorry you're going through this at the moment. My 4 year old DS2 is ASD and I've read some AS and ASD books. The one that springs to mind straight away is Tony Attwoods "Asperger Syndrome" which seems pretty comprehensive. I also read his "Why does Chris do that" because my DS's behaviour gets difficult when he's tired/frustrated.

They're the two that sprang immediately to mind, am sure that more knowledgeable MN'ers will be able to add to this.

Good luck with everything.
