AS/ADHD, age 13. He'll only be there an hour, and it's only in the council offices next door, but it's still a big step Confused.

He's flapped a bit this morning, spent nearly an hour in the shower so a bit rushed before he left. Hope he'll be OK Sad.

Oh good luck to your DS! Hope he enjoys and all goes well. Have a Brew and try to keep busy for next hour :)

I'm baking chocolate banana muffins so I don't think about it Smile.

I'm cautiously confident. It's a new scheme for kids with SNs who have barriers to accessing work experience. Ds is only their second student Smile. He's doing an hour a week till December then a proper half-day placement from January. HATE it when he goes to something new in a flap, though Sad.

How fantastic that there is such a scheme. Hope it all goes well for your DS.

My DS did an hour a week in the local library for his Voluntary work for DofE. I think that gave him the confidence he needed to go on and do his Yr 10 Work Experience placement. Didn't stop me worrying about whether he would cope or not though - but he did. He has HF ASD and we got no additional help to find a placement or support him in the placement (even though he has 25 hrs pw 1:1 at school). It is a miracle that he coped!!!

Enjoy your muffins!!!

It went well Smile. He's back home, happy and calm and has licked the muffin bowl Grin.

It's a great scheme, though I expect some hiccups as it's in its early stages. It's aimed around the speaking and listening elements of National Curriculum so the emphasis is on communication skills - an area where ds has had no practical support outside the home so I'm optimistic that it can fill in a few gaps for him. The project is ongoing too, for up to three years and he can try out several departments once the council set up and train mentors.

bigbluebus I'm reassured that your son did so well on his work experience. I'm hoping that ds will come out of it with some useful life skills.

Muffins are ace, btw Grin.
