Hi

I recently posted a thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs/1545227-Neuro-Development-Clinic

I have now got the report. I have picked out a few observations

spent much of his time playing along side other children rather than with them

used limited imagination in his play

would sort and line them [toy soldiers] up

wasnt always aware of personal space ......... observed to have his feet and arms in the space of his peers

made a variety of facial gestures....more pronounced at times of anxiety (blink, scrunch up nose, sniff)

sometimes hum to himself or talk quietly, seemingly to himself

responded well to turn taking during structured times

occasionally would make a little insensitive comments to peers

rigid in sticking to game rules, time keeping and the structure of the group

was able to complete the social communication tasks with relative ease and could predict thoughts and feelings of characters in cartoons

noticed high levels of anxiety at times of transition, routine change and poor time keeping

What are your thoughts on the above? Do you think this is enough to give a diagnosis?

Read your other talk thread and yes I would say there is enough evidence and observations to tell you whats up :)

I cannot dx your ds but there are in those observations autistic traits so yes that would be why they are considering a further ADOS. Some ppl on here have had their children sail through ADOS but still receive a dx of ASD.

Hi. Many thanks for your reply. This is what I thought. I so hope she gives the ASD diagnosis without any more investigations because I can't see what the ADOS could tell us that hasn't been seen already. I am concerned as he did "pass" the ADOS he had two years ago.

After nearly 5 years in the "system" we might be finally getting there

Has any-one else got any thoughts? I would really really appreciate the input.

Hi myboys. Again, couldn't DX across the internet, but there's definitely some red flags. The fact that he was good at the theory of mind stuff is a good indicator that he will be pretty high functioning if he does get an ASD DX. You have a good base to work on. Smile But it does make any DX more difficult to predict.

Hi OP, how are you getting on with the referrals?

myBOYSareBONKERS · 05/09/2012 20:56

HI

We are waiting for an appointment with DS psychiatrist on Wednesday. SO help he gets the correct diagnosis as we really need help. He raised his fist to me again today Sad

Good luck with the appointment. We've had a lot of problems with my son and his violence, it is really hard isn't it? How old is he? Could social stories help?

myBOYSareBONKERS · 06/09/2012 06:28

he has just turned 9. They (apparently) did social stories at school. I am really hoping that he gets the ASD dx as we can then access support groups for him and us.

How old is your son?

Hi

Just to give an update. They have diagnosed mild-moderate Autism.

Am so pleased but sad at the same time.

The fight for help continues

Im really sorry MyBoys, you must be going through so many different emotions at the moment. It's good that you've now got the bit of paper to get him the support he needs. Keep posting on these boards, it's been a lifeline for me. Relax and take it easy Wine, and try and take it all in xxxxxx

My son is 5 btw, I hadn't noticed your reply before.
