Hello,
My DD is coming up to 4 and has been given various assessments and various suggestions have been made as to where she is behind in her development, however she is yet to receive any actual help. I now feel that I need to just get on and start helping her.

She has a Speech and language delay and she also has sensory processing issues (I think). It has also been suggested that she is on the autism spectrum.

I have been told there is no speech and language therapy available for her on the NHS in my area at the moment and need some help from someone to get to the bottom of her issues.

I have just spoken to the London Children's clinic who suggested she see a speech and language therapist and also the occupational therapist and take it from there.

before I part with any of my hard earned cash I wondered if anyone had used them and if they did how they found them?

Thanks

We saw Jackie Harland (SALT) in the run up to Tribunal. I was impressed.

We went there for months for SALT. Jackie Harland did the initial assessment, and helped train us parents up with what to do at home. Then once at an appropriate level we did group sessions. Very impressed, didn't waste our money on unnecessary things. It seems to charge mid-to slightly higher end, but you get what you pay for. We were very happy.

Thank you. Tbh at the moment I am ignoring the money thing and just wanting to stop talking about her problems and start helping her.

Maybe being a bit naive here, but who told you that your PCT does not offer the therapy that your DD needs on the NHS? Does this mean that they don't have anyone in the area that can help, or don't know how to help?
DS3 has just seen a specialist SALT (feeding and swallowing issues) at GOSH because our PCT didn't offer the service. All the paediatrician had to do was tell them that they didn't offer the service (hardest part was getting them to reply to the letter!)
Or is it that they have too much demand and have tightened up the criteria for referral so much that you don't meet it?

They are restructuring the service apparently and they can offer some help with her forming sounds but that is a 6 month plus wait. It's been over a year since concerns were raised and she has been seen by 6 professionals and has had no actual help. I will continue down the nhs route but really can't wait any more.

It might be worth feet stamping - NHS choices - referred a year ago, you can't provide - this is where I want to go/second opinion at hospital x (insert favoured option) - I want an appointment as a new referral within 3 months. Copy to PCT PALS and ask for answers.
Always worth a try - and has got me further, quicker , than playing a patient waiting for the NHS to sort itself out game.

Jackie Harland is very, very, very good, we've been using the clinic for almost a year now and we r very impressed by her work. PM me if you have any questions ;).

second autnevil's advice to complain. I think the 'support' you have received is absolutely unacceptable. we were in a similar situation and I complained to PALS and things started moving very quickly within a couple of days.
