DD is being assessed tomorrow morning by the social communication group for ASD... apparently she will be seen by speech and language therapists, and a combination of psychologists and be observed through a video link.... gulp... that should take an hour then we go and have a cup of tea and then we have a feed back session..the whole appointment will last for 2 and a half hours!

Do you have any good ideas of questions I should be asking, things to say or words of wisdom..

Thanks

Hi, I saw your post, but have never experienced anything like this - sounds quite intense, so I hope it all goes well for you and DD. (sorry not to be more useful.....)

rummum - I will be in same position as you so good luck. No advice I am afraid.

The only thing that is keeping me together at the moment is that no matter what the dx my dd will still be my dd (iykwim).

When ds was diagnosed he was seen by everyone individually over several weeks, I can't imagine what it's like to seen by everyone in one big session, a bit intimidating I expect. Good luck.

Blimey.... were back.... daughter was assessed by a salt, and a psychologist, and another 2 people were in a broom cupboard watching her through a 2 way mirror!! and it was videoed....

They want to assess her in her school environment as they don't want to give her the wrong diagnoses.. at the moment we know she is dyspraxic. The need to assess her more to see if its dyspraxia with aspergers tendencies or aspergers with dyspraxic tendencies She did well on the pretend play... which is really supprising.. and not well on the social side and emotional side of the test...
Someone will go and see her at school in the next few weeks, then someone will go in and see the school after and tell them their findings and recomendations for helping her...

Bless her... she is quite happy to go to these assessments, doesn't ask why she is there... doesn't tell us what they ask her to do.... talk about dreamy....
Me I don't care what they call it as long as she gets the help and supports that she needs

Glad to hear that they've decided to watch her in a another setting other than a clinical one, I've often wondered how they can make an actual diagnosis based on just tests alone, without seeing how they interact/behave with their peers etc. Hope you don't have to wait to long until she gets the support she needs.
