Thoroughly filled in on practically everything from the fact he eats with his fingers and will eat the same thing for months at a time right through to the punching and biting with frustration.

Not pinning hopes on anything just yet though as we are still waiting for a formal ASD diagnosis and nowhere near being statemented just yet. Even though ed psych suspects ASD and everyone he has come into contact with says he needs full time one to one.

Well done Smile As a word of encouragement, DD1 didn't have a formal diagnosis (just GDD with epilepsy) and only had 1:1 through the local assessment when we first applied for DLA. She got HRC straight away (was too young for mobility at that time).

starfish71 · 17/08/2012 08:44

Well done on completing form, itts a horrible form to do.

We didn't have a dx or statement when I applied for DS2, heard back in 2 weeks and got MRC and low mobility. Have just sent DS1 form off, not going to be so quick this time I think!

JackJacksmummy · 17/08/2012 09:42

2 weeks was quick, my friend was waiting 4 months!! Got a nice sum of back pay though!
We received paediatrician appointment yesterday for 12th September and are awaiting ASD unit appointment so we might have a wait if they decide to wait for the outcome of those.

good luck and if they turn you down, the appeal, appeal, appeal :)
we were turned down initially, turned also on reconsideration and awarded HRC on appeal. IME, they really like to try it on.

starfish71 · 17/08/2012 09:54

My sister waited 6 months for a decision for her little girl, turned down initially, wrote a letter asking for it to reconsidered then claim awarded. It just varies so much.

You sound as though you filled the forms in really well, lots of detail, fingers crossed for you. :)

littlelegsmum · 17/08/2012 12:13

Well done :). Sounds really tough but the more thorough you are, the better. I've only just phoned for a form and don't have a dx. However dd told Camhs herself last week that I look after her ALL the time and how much more anxious she gets about things when im not around, so that's a good start. Keep us updated and good luck :)

I think I was quiet thorough - even to the point of pointing out his pronunciation problems and that people outside of our home don't understand what he is saying and if he was to go missing no one would understand what he was trying to say. That he always forgets to wipe his bottom and wash his hands. Loads more!

Bit annoyed with myself because in my haste to get it sent I forgot to take a photocopy!!!

I sent in my renewal in May and its only just come back two weeks before it was due to end. They said they are always very busy over summer so expect a sworn wr have no dx as yet and we got it renewes

used2bthin · 17/08/2012 15:22

Uh oh ust reading the time its taken to come back-sent mine off two weeks ago-it runs out in a month hope we don't end up with a gap. So worried it will be reduced too! Hate those forms OP good luck!

MsNobodyAgain · 17/08/2012 18:41

Good luck.

I sent mine off over 2 weeks ago (it's a renewal though). I received a confirmation today that they have received it and to contact them again if I don't hear from them in the next 8 weeks.

used2bthin · 17/08/2012 19:59

Someone rang me on tues because they had a query over my name(recently married) and said they were doing the form then, wonder if that means it won't be too long. Also a renewal. I am worried I sounded too relaxed on the phone and they will think we are ok!

msnobodyagain did you do yours online is that why you got a confirmation?

MsNobodyAgain · 17/08/2012 20:30

I wouldn't worry at all about sounding too relaxed. If your child has additional needs over and above a NT child of the same age, you should get DLA. Some people get turned down on the first application but then appeal and are successful.

I didn't do the form online as such. I downloaded it from the relevant website so I could then type it out and send it off at my leisure with supporting documents. I have done 2 renewals and always got the same confirmation letter.

It is a worrying time.

MsNobodyAgain · 17/08/2012 20:31

Also, people can get turned down on renewal so I have heard but again, you can appeal.

used2bthin · 17/08/2012 21:04

Thanks, I probably did get a letter then , don't remember one but that isnt saying much! It is my third renewal, always had HRC due to medical needs and this one had the addition of seizures and behavioural issues due to poor communication but you never know esp as I didnt feel that I covered the night time stuff as well this time.. Will definately appeal if it is lowered though. Good luck with yours.

starfish71 · 17/08/2012 21:17

I had DS1's confirmation letter this morning saying they have received the claim form.

Then opened second brown envelope and it was DS2's renewal form, aargh! Have been mega stressed today and have got straight on filling it in, not the right thing to do I think considering how stressed I feel right now but will hopefully get it sent back on Monday, I really really get stressed by these forms, can you tell?! Blush

used2bthin · 17/08/2012 21:21

oh no starfish two to do is even harder! I get stressed too, horrible things!

coff33pot · 18/08/2012 13:04

Good luck! I sent mine off 19 days ago and got acknowledgement straight away and just playing the waiting game myself now :)

JackJacksmummy · 18/08/2012 13:09

Nerve wracking isn't it?

OP posts:
used2bthin · 18/08/2012 19:25

Ha ha got my acknoledgement today! immediately remembered that I always get one! certainly is nerve wracking!

tylerashdenshey · 18/08/2012 22:05

Do they have to a certain age to claim this? X

MsNobodyAgain · 18/08/2012 22:12

Children under 16 may get DLA. The care component can be paid from birth but the mobility component can only be paid from the age of three. In order to qualify for benefit the child?s needs must be substantially more than a non-disabled child of the same age.

Copied and pasted from DWP website. There is further information about rates and details of how to apply on there. If you need a link, please ask. x

tylerashdenshey · 18/08/2012 22:41

My ds is being asessed atm, he will be 3 in nov, should I just wait till then u think?

MsNobodyAgain · 18/08/2012 22:51

It depends on what he is being assessed for maybe. I am no expert but I would not wait if it was me but it's up to you and your knowledge of your ds's problems. If has problems which require additional help over and above a NT child of the same age, I would apply now.

An assessment now doesn't mean you will get a diagnosis (as you probably know). Some people do get one, some wait for years, or are never diagnosed.

Your ds can receive DLA without a diagnosis.

tylerashdenshey · 19/08/2012 14:02

Oh I never knew that, thankyou, hes been asessed for autism, I kind of know hes not a "normal" child, is tht what u mean by nt? Maybe I could try, thnks x
