Hi All, First time on site, we have just applied for DLA for our 3 year old, with Mild Cerabal Palsy, Low muscle tone, global delay etc. Have no idea of the whole DLA process but have been reading your tips with interest, fingers crossed & good luck to all!

lars · 11/04/2006 14:28

red37, Good luck with all of this. I know it's a real stuggle, any evidence you have from the school will support the DLA ( school reports, etc) keep us posted. larsxx

my son has asperger comorbid adhd he was turned down because of the school report apparently they feel they should be as positive as poss about the child not what you need when applying for dla i appealed stating all the facts again i had an answer for every point they made to not give it to him as to why they should and put this. adhd comprises two groups of symptoms one concerns difficultie in paying attention focusing on a particular subject and remembering it whilst the other comprises ofnon stop restlessness and impulsivity to the point of recklessness constantly being on the move running climbing and interfering with everything in sight the hyperactivity is the most disruptive as the child is at constant risk of running into danger litterally as a parent looking after my child is exhausting and extremely hard work there is no break or respite as he cannot go to friends for tea to the cinema or take part in any other activities that other children his age would so we as parents do not enjoy the break these activitie would give us or his siblings. this worked for me got the decision overturned before appeal goodluck

Hi all,
Appeal in a few days, met with rep, he has prepared an excellent submission, got various supporting evidence, he is optimistic that we have a good chance but trying not to get hopes up.
Lars - took your advice and went to see specialist and requested various reports off him, to support our claim.Outcome good.
Saggermakers- kept a diary, that is being also submitted.
Thank you all again for your kind wishes and support and excellent advice, if it wasn't for that I don't know what I would of done, I will be keep you posted of the outcome.xx
You are all fabSmile

Good luck red37, my ds got his awarded last week. I know how mentally draining it is having to constantly write about your ds's difficulties. Hope you get a good result.

stapo1 · 15/04/2006 20:51

Hi All
Have just received a letter from dwp, informing us that they have requested a report from consultant re DLA claim for ds( even though I included all reports to date).
Does anyone know, what does the report ask for, does it ask consultant do confirm diagnosis or how it effects on daily basis. Not sure how consultant can comment on effect if only seen him twice?
This is our forst attempt at claiming DLA.
Any ideas

jambuttie · 15/04/2006 21:12

good luck with the appeal hun.

We are still waiting to see if dt2 qualifies for dla it was 6 weeks yesterday since we applied

macwoozy · 15/04/2006 21:16

Without knowing for sure I can only speculate that they are asking the paed how your ds's difficulties would be affecting him on a day to day basis. Although a diagnosis should be considered very important with a DLA application, in reality it means s** all. This happened to me when I applied first time round.

jambuttie · 16/04/2006 07:43

We are still awaiting diagnosis for DT2, but we ain't back at the CDC till August.

By that time all the individual specialist will have carried out their own assesments and discuss it with the named pead.

He was placed on the Special Needs Register in February also.

May give them a call this week to see what stage they are at with the claim

Well done red37Smile

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 20/04/2006 11:13

Ah well done red Smile

I just don't know how they justify a flat refusal followed by an award of mid care and low mobility. Beggars belief!

coppertop · 20/04/2006 11:24
