i'm here and we're quite noteworthy perhaps with an 8 week old a flappy chappy and forward 3GS old, but everyone who speaks to us (and it does appear to be everyone) is either a SENCO, Classroom Assistant, TA, Social Worker etc etc., all with something to say about DS.

ooh read that thread earlier this week, didn't realise you had started it star!

Are they driving you nuts?! Other campers I mean not your family! :)

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/08/2012 22:12

Yes a bit, but more because they're nice to us and I can't even think where to start with letting them individually know how collectively crap they all are.

And there are lots of annoying comments about how 'lucky' we are to have a statement etc.

I feel for you, Star. Last year we went on a long organised camp. We were first-timers, but others had been going for years, and they had a community going.

Two 'situations' occurred involving people with autism having a meltdown, and due to the insular nature of the camp, everyone found out about it, and had something to say about it. Unfortunately, DS1 was the instigator of one of the incidents, and the entire two weeks were spent fending off busy bodies well meaning peope wanting me to explain it all to them, and answer all their stupid questions.

I felt like bloody Tony Attwood, I can tell you Grin.

I tried to stay civil (and sane!), but I do remember asking one annoying woman 'why don't you just wait till you get home and bloody well Google it?'.

We went to France this year and never mentioned autiam to a soul Grin.

Ooh yes that would be annoying, had an interplay volunteer visit last week and she said "oh you are all sorted then!" when I told her DS was in an ASD unit and we had a statement.

Yes it is good but anyone seeing me, my family, my twitchy eye knows it hasn't been easy!,

Have you got your best fixed grin in place? Grin

Perhaps you could invite them all to a TAC meeting in your tent Star Wink.
Sorry but laughing at Starfish and her twitchy eye too - I know just what you mean Grin.
We too are glamping camping at the moment. The campsite is quite strict and campers are told to report any misbehaviour Shock - not sure what they mean by that! Could be a bit tricky with ds having behaviour difficulties.
On the plus side there is piped classical music in the toilet block so you can poo in time with the 1812 overture (very relaxing) Smile

Can't you just tell em you are on a break from being patronised by, or having to educate professionals and to take their opinions elsewhere, however well meaning?

Lol at the birth! Imagine repeating that story in a multi-agency meeting a few years from now. Can you imagine the reaction? Our Cahms would have a field day & think all their Xmas's had come at once lol!

StarlightMcKenzie · 17/08/2012 08:05

Lol Boch! Never thought of that.

Wouk love to tell them That this is my holiday from the bollocks I get from their colleagues.

Actually, equally annoying was the part-time home-schooler trying to tell me to Pt DS despite what the statement says and the LA won't be monitoring it Hmm. yes love!

Have to say though that the children of these people are incredibly tolerant and forgiving of DS as well as polite. He has had a fantastic week, and so many positive responses to his attempts at social interaction.

He's made so much progress we're definitely coming back, even if we have to camp next to burghers ourselves!!!
