No SALT available and visual aids

My DD (3.9) and suspected ASD has just had her SALT assessment, where I was told that there was basically no therapy available.
We will be put on the waiting list for speech sounds therapy, but it is a long wait and there is nothing else.

It was quite clear that my DD's problems with speech are more than simply a physical issue. There were a lot of concepts that were just beyond her (lost, bigger, smaller, heavier etc) and when she was asked to follow instructions she could do some, but just heard the key words.

It is very frustrating as she needs help quite clearly, but there is none available, which is pretty disgusting actually, but I'm not even angry as it is so not surprising. Essentially it seems that there is plenty of assessment, but no actual help.

Where do I go to help her? Who can help her with her speech? Do I look at private SALT's? I don't want to waste time (and money) on the wrong thing, but need to start putting something in to place for her.

Also does anyone know a good website where I can download visual aids for her? The SALT did suggest that it would be helpful to sit with her for 5 minutes per day to improve her concentration and following adult instructions and that using pictures would help her know when this was starting and ending.

Thanks

Have a look at 'Cerebra' they can help fund SALT if you have been refused through NHS.

Theres lots you can do at home and there are a few websites where you can get picture/symbols (look at boardmaker). Theres also a lovely lady on e-bay who makes picture cards, PEC's cards and visual aids.

We now use a i-pad which has loads of communication apps.

You could look at going on a PEC's course?
