Thought I share this here, this is a subscription only app which allows you to work on a number of different areas for kids with Autism on the iPad and then practise using NET natural environment training. It is expensive but a good precursor to startng ABA at home as the plan involves activities which you would be doing in a home based ABA programme.

How much is it ? What cognitive level is it for ? Very roughly ?

This is from their website.

TOBY?s Waitlist program targets the skills necessary to be able to develop naturally and independently from the environment. In particular, TOBY is appropriate:

If your child is under 6
Does not yet have words
Or is only using a limited array of words
Has difficulties with play
Has difficulty with communication
Does not find social play motivating

The cost of the app is £64.99. I haven't gone through the whole set of tasks yet but I would say they are designed for early intervention only.

I think that's too expensive for me unless I could see a trial first unfortunately. ds1 is 8 with limited language though so could fit the criteria.

There are a few videos about it on YouTube as well, am interested in it for DD :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 14:02

DD is nearly 6, but she is a toddler in many ways so I would hope it would still be appropriate

Their Facebook page is quite helpful too, although I have to say I feel it might look a little too advanced for DD from that page :(

where are you based? I will be happy if you wanted to have a go at mine to see if its suitable. Sadly for us it is a little bit advanced for DS1(3).Sad

That is really kind of you, but I don't think we are near, we are in Edinburgh.

DD is operating at about an 18 month old level at the moment so maybe it will be too advanced for a while.

Just getting desperate for something structured to do with her after school, she has no concentration or play skills so just wanders around.

dev9aug · 16/08/2012 14:13

Fanjo, if your dd can make the connection between cause and effect, then its not too advanced for her. The tutorials start with the basics, like pointing, dragging images etc and children earn points everytime they get it right and can choose a reward at the end like fireworks, bubbles, popping balloons etc. There are screenshots of the app in the appstore which list out all the activities for this app.

sounds great, i don't think she could drag things though, she has a huge motor planning problem.

Mind you she can unwrap a bar of chocolate so maybe if the rewards were enough she would pick it up Wink

I hope your son gets some use out of it later!

dev9aug · 16/08/2012 14:18

Fanjo, Willow I have pm'ed you both.

Sounds like it could work for ds1. He loves the letter dragging apps in fact cannot do much except drag and match so maybe this could push him on a bit

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/08/2012 14:30

That's great :)

Hi fanjoforthemammaries,
If you're based in Edinburgh you might be interested in this project clickeast . They will lend you an iPad and you will take part in a trial of new application. More information on their website.

Thanks. We were invited on that but at the time it was too advanced for DD, will take a look at it again :)
