Behavioural optometry exercises ...?

DS has as convergent squint and we went to a BO a long time ago. It wasn't right at the time, but I've recently revisited the one exercise she gave us that focussed on his eyes (most of it was reflex inhibition therapy which we're still doing with an OT this time).

We have got so many OT and RRT exercises to do that i don't want to start on behavioural optometry yet - plus got Botox coming up and extra exercises with that.

BUT after introducing this BO exercise Moorfields said today that DS's vision and squint have both improved. They would not accept that the simple eye exercise of looking at a toy to the right, then left, then up and down every day could have helped ... I know its the reason for the improvements though.

I am just wondering, those of you who have tried behavioural optometry - do you have any other suggestions of eye exercises that I could do with DS - just for the time being until I feel its worth paying to go an see an actual BO?

Thank you.

I can't offer any advice but am interested in any answers you may get. My DS has ptosis, which is damage to the nerve and muscle in the eylid. This means he cannot open his eye properly, so the vision is failing. We patch to improve that and there is now 2 lines difference in his eyes.

I have been recommended to see and Opthalmic therapist and she believes she can help him, but his hospital consultant doe not belive it can help him. Maybe not main stream but I believe it can help him!!

We have ptosis in our family MammaTJ, dd and I have both had brow suspensions.

My DS has has that too but not very succesful. They don't wish to operate again until he is older and it can be done under local (eek) anaesthetic. Apparently that gives better control.

Under local!!! OMG!!! There is no way they could do that to me under a local. I can't even let DH come near my eyes to put my lubricant ointment in (I'm a hand down at the moment and it's definitely a 2 handed job!) We (dd and I) both have one eye that's done well and one that's not so well done. The cynical part of me thinks a junior doc did the second ones. They keep talking about redoing the op when she start s school. (she's going into yr 2 in sept!) but think the later they leave it the better

Does your DS tilt his head back to compensate for the droopy lid? Dd was doing so they have put prisms in her lens prescription. The difference is amazing.

Sorry for hijack OP. I'm taking dd to a different consultant in sept to ask specifically about BO type exercises. I will share if I find out anything that might be of use.
