So we're off to Bristol today for an initial appointment/discussion about SDR for DD (3.4) She has cerebral palsy, but it's only mild and she walks unaided, albeit a bit wobbly and falls a lot. This operation could change her life - removing the muscle tightness, helping her to walk 'normally' and allowing her bones to grow straight.

But it wouldn't be funded on the NHS so we'd have to raise £40,000 and it involves on operation on one vertebra, and on the nerves where they join the spinal cord.

I don't want to ruin what she's got ability-wise, but I want the best for her.

Anyway, we're not leaving till 1ish, and I'd appreciate a little handholding and distraction until then, if it's not too much trouble...? Might put this in chat too... the more the merrier!

it's only natural to worry.

you are going to an appointment to find out possible future options for you dd.

whatever the end result of the conversation, there will be choices to be made - it's back to uncertainty for a bit.

I hope all goes well, and that you get the answers you want Smile

Thanks - I just feel somewhat pathetic - I know there are people facing so much more... I'm a coper, so when I'm not coping I hate it!

I hope it all goes well for you.

silverfrog · 15/08/2012 12:18

you're not being pathetic!

I know what you mean wrt being a coper though - all I ever want to know is the end result - whatever it is I'll cope with it/plan around it, but the not knowing (or having two many options/what ifs to plan for) really gets to me.

not long now

Galena · 15/08/2012 12:22

Thanks - and tears over the wrong food processor is definitely not pathetic!

Oh good luck Galena! dS is back in hospital for intensive physio but it really has made a huge difference to him. It's not a cure and because we went for the more conservative approach he still has some spasticity but the freedom and independence it's given him not yet four months down the line is amazing. It's bloody hard work though, for me and him!

Galena · 15/08/2012 18:27

It went really well - he feels she's stubborn determined enough for the operation and that, depending on the outcome of the multi-agency assessment, she would benefit.

Assessment will be around the end of the year and cost around £1000...

Woohoo - I think!
