hi

I'm expecting my 3rd baby and due to a high risk if downs we had the cvs test. The test results were all clear for downs,Edwards and pattou but we found out yesterday that our baby boy will have an extra Y chromosome. Its pretty rare and we are just awaiting an appointment with the hospital to find out more about it in the meantime i was wondering if anyone out there has a son with XYY and if you have noticed any particular effects.

Thanks

Have you tried the "Unique" web site I find it excellent Some men go through life not knowing they have XYY. Good luck
P.S I found unique very positive regarding DD

I know a chap in his 60s who apparently has an extra Y. He was compulsorily tested in his youth because he was pretty delinquent. But he settled with kids in his 20s and is the most sensible old hippy I've ever met! V kind and fun, if a little anti-establishmentGrin
Hth..

I have a son with xyy as well.We found this out when he was having tests for autism, because his speech was very delayed and he didn't walk unaided until 2 weeks before his second birthday. He started talking normally around the age of four. He is now 7 Years old and there is no difference between him and any other child of this age. He is doing brilliant in school especially in maths and is a very keen footballer. He has no effects of this syndrome at all and doesn't have any behavioural difficulties. If I can answer any of your questions please feel free to ask. I have to mention that i have never come across anyone else whose child has this.

Thanks for your comments. Spoke to the genetics specialist and unique and feeling much more reassured and feel more able to deal with whatever may come in the future... Well for today at least!

Hello, only just noticed this thread. My lovely grandson is XYY. We found out when he had genetic tests after being diagnosed with ASD. The paed didn't know much about it and said we should keep the ASD diagnosis as we wouldn't get any support with 'only' the XYY diagnosis. He is nearly 4 and still speech delayed but very friendly and loving. We often wonder whether he is on the spectrum or not, only time will tell. Benegesserit, your post has given us a lot of hope for the future!
