We are off to the Paralympics in a couple of weeks... ( v. Excited) .I am worried that Ds (15 asd) might find the security check stressful. Can anyone tell me what it was like please?

I was at Greenwich Park, and the security was very slick. We were through in minutes.

First of all there was a ticket check, and then onto an airport style bag and body check. Bags, coats, and belts were removed and went through the x-ray scanner, and then we went through the metal detecting arch. Dh had to go through twice because his belt had metal on it. Food was permitted, but not liquids, cutlery or anything sharp. The checks were done by uniformed members of the armed forces, and they were very friendly.

At Greenwich there were huge queues for food outlets, so I would recommend anyone going there to bring a picnic.

I was quite nervous about going through security for my own reasons. I had a pacemaker fitted last year, and have not flown since. The guidelines now say that it's safe to walk through metal detecting arches, but that you may set off the alarm - as it was my first time I felt quite anxious. When I showed the soldier my ID card, he looked a little nonplussed, so I was mightily pleased when I didn't set off any alarms and glad that I didn't keel over!

We went to an out of London venue. Bag check was done very efficiently (had to squeeze sunblock on to prove that it was). We then went as directed to a queue to go in and were waved to the policeman on another door (needed a wheelchair accessible entrance). I think the first guy thought the policeman would do the rub down search and the policeman obviously thought the other guy had done it!!
I was quite pleased really as Ds is sensitive about having his gastrostomy touched and also likely to squirm around from being tickled!!

Me. Was amazing. We went through the shopping centre to get to the park and security took less than a minute. My sil said the other side was much busier. We just put our bags on the conveyer belt and walked through the doorway.

I did with my 15year old DS who has AS, it was great.
Security was very slick and good natured, not like an airport!
We had a great time and are going back for the Paralympics.

Oh that's reassuring Sauvignon . Airport style was what I was worrying about.
Thanks Smile

The actions were similar to an airport, i.e. all loose items in a tray which was x-rayed and you had to walk through a metal detector but it felt relaxed.
I always find airport security intimidating and the staff a bit sullen.

We went to he North Greenwich Arena. We got there early and did not have to queue to go through the scanners. All staff exceptionally helpful and would be quite happy, I am sure, to assist with any problems. Took only a few minutes

Travel light so less to check!

We went to Wembley. So quick through security that we then had ages waiting! He watched pokemon on his ipod touch with ear defenders on over his ear phones all the way through the match :D
