Sensory room?

Hi all,

I have a 4YO with HFA.

I have a room in our cellar (no natural light, reasonably low ceiling) which would make a great sensory room... but I have no clue how to go around designing it. I think DS would love it, maybe one of those lights that projects pictures onto the walls...

Any creative ideas would be much appreciated!

FWIW, kids are starting school in September and I am planning to lose the play room (which in all honesty, is just a mess!) so a little play area would be great, especially as DS will probably want a chill out space once he starts school.

We have the following in our sensory room which is small.
Vibrating mat
Bubble tube
Hidey den
String lights
Projector
Crystal lights and cd player

Lights, and tactile stuff is very important to DS - he adores play dough and moon sand, plus sand and water is very important to him, but I'm concious of something that is not too messy.

CD is a good idea. I hadn't even thought of that.

I would suggest a sand tray that is deep and lidded then. You can get special trays like this with lights under it here

Thanks. That looks good.

our local toy library lends out sensory toys, bubble tubes etc so you could try and borrow some and see what works. I think cerebra might loan some as well.

Agnes - that is a fab idea.

I will see if there is a toy library in my area, and also look up Cerebra.
