Is there any chance of getting DS to wear a wetsuit?

He has dyspraxia etc and usually spends most of his day when at home in his boxers only Hmm

We go camping regularly and this time I'd like to get him a wetsuit to keep him a bit warmer in the lake they have on site.

Do you think I'll be wasting my money?? Anyone else got theirs to wear one? He's 12 btw.

DS doesn't like putting it on but once it's on he seems okay. Make sure you have an rash vest for underneath. He wears a 2 piece uv suit under his which seems the same. Bigger Sainsburys do wetsuits at quite a reasonable price.

My DS is only 5 and has ASD he is quite selective in what he will wear.

Ds is extremely sensitive to clothes (15 asd and dyspraxia) but I did manage to get him in a wetsuit in Cornwall for a few years at about 10-12 I said if he still felt uncomfortable 10 minutes after trying it on, he didn't have to wear it . We got cheap ones btw. I also got it so it wasn't tight on him.
So I put it on in the tent before going to beach .. Then tried to distract him a bit for ten minutes. It worked.
Lol he wouldn't wear one now though!

I was going to say sunsuit or rash vest and trunks underneath.

Dd3 will wear hers in the water but wont play in it wet like the other kids seem to do, it gets whipped off as soon as she comes out of the water.

We sometimes have a problem with the velcro bit by her neck but the high neck rash vest helps.

Go for it you can always ebay itSmile

sorry to be a bit Confused but what's a rash vest?

Thanks for the replies btw. The Sainsbury's by us, although quite big don't sell them so need to go to Decathlon which is about an hours drive away so that they can try them on first (got 3DC to buy for).

sorry on iPod so can't link properly but that blog post is about exactly that. Talks about rash vests as well. I reckon ds1 would prob have gone in the full length one from the start tbh. If you're going near a surf school you could hire one from them to save the cost of buying one. Or if you think it will be a real struggle then look for one with zipped legs (online).

They sell rash vests in Decathlon, we usually buy bright coloured ones so when Dd3 is playing on the beach in hers we can see her.

Good luckSmile

DS3 has always worn one no problem. My other two boys tell me the Sainsburys ones are really scratchy around the collar / zip and they always leave the zip undone a bit / moan about them. DS3 wears them all no problem. You could try and get a better quality one e.g. proper surf brand etc off ebay.

We also had an aqua sphere one which was stretchy rash vest type material on the arms and legs and thicker wetsuit material on the trunk. It was really lovely - it zipped up the front so avoided the scratchy zip thing- but DH left it at the pool [grrrrrr]. It is thinner than a typical wetsuit though.
