Proposed statement has arrived whilst we were on holiday so I have only seen it today and I need to respond in the next 5 days - eek!

There are some things I think they haven't covered but my main concern that absolutely nothing is quantified. It does say that ds should have access to 25 hours of additional support and the support may be provided flexibly (individually/small groups/classroom) but part 3 is just a long list of sentences such as
"ds2 requires a programmen to develop his social communication and interaction skills".

"ds requires a programme to develop his speech and language drwan up in consultation with an appropriate specialist"

"ds requires a pastoral support programme"

"ds requires a programee to develop his literacy skills"

(there are about 15 points in all and bar a couple of things they do cover the main issues but it is VERY non specific in regards to how these programmes should be implemented)

I would really appreciate some advice on how a good statement should be set out before I contact them.

thank you

The basics How to check a statement and Getting the statement right

IPSEA is worth a google but their website seems to be down tonight

And a pastoral support programme is a short term intervention to prevent children being suspended or expelled. Rather a strange thing to put in a statement... perhaps calls the rest of it into question?

Catsdontcare · 12/08/2012 23:07

Yes I am rather baffled by the pastoral support programme. He is only four and hasn't even started school yet so early days to be thinking exclusion!!

I can't get on ipsea either but thank you for the other links. Am frantically photocopying all the reports/advice and am about to go through them and hilight all his difficulties and needs and see what thjey've missed out and the do the same with recomendations for provision.

initially I was so pleased to see a statement was being given I could have easily not questioned half the content! but now I've read it over and over I am really pissed off!

have spent most of the night hi lighting the advice etc not sure what to do now. Do I phone them and say I'm not happy with it or do I send back the form asking for a meeting?
