DS had his first swimming lesson today and he took to it like a duck to water! In less than the half hour he was already diving down under and picking up objects for the tutor :) It was lovely to watch the repor with the tutor who is a young girl and it was good to see how confident he was.

Then we were left and DS was allowed to stay in the small pool with me by the side so he could continue to practice. We were enjoying ourselves then a mother got in with a little girl the same age. Mother smiled I smiled and smiled at the girl then while DS was "swimming" she backed off and whispered thats DS he is really naughty at school to her mother, mother looked and both left the pool just as DS was going to approach the girl to say hi :( It was the school that was bad not DS.

Then we came out and after a treat of a bottle of fizzy pop and a sausage roll we went to Tescos for a quick shop. DS is making his sisters pizza as an apology for playing with errr bubble bath in their room Blush He needed the toilet and so I told him to pop in the mens and trusted him to come back out as I had a full load of shopping. I waited and an old gentleman came out, looked and made a beeline for me.

He said "is that your son or your grandson in the loo?" (grandson I mean to say!)

I said it is my son and waiting for the aftermath of what has gone wrong now but instead of problems he piped up.

I want to tell you that you have a very polite young man. He helped me get out of the toilet because I was struggling with the door and he came and opened the other door for me to come out. He has lovely manners. He told DS that the next time he will see him DS will be much older and he will grow up into a lovely polite man.
DS just stared at him but I was smiling from head to toe! And said thank you for coming over to tell me this as he had just made my day and I Grin all the way home! I told his Dad about it and I still think DS hasnt got a clue why my chest is swelling from the straight shrug and straight face when his Dad praised him :)

Oh that is really lovely coff33pot! What a wonderful DS you have and anyone who doesn't see it does not deserve to even be acknowledged.

Fantastic news on how well he did in his swimming lesson too, that is on my list for DS2 soon.

Sounds like a really good day :)

Foslady · 09/08/2012 20:41

Oh that's fab! - what a end to a lovely day

babiki · 09/08/2012 21:24

oh lovely :)

SilkStalkings · 09/08/2012 21:36

Yay! I wish people could be more forthcoming with compliments in general in everyday life.

coff33pot · 09/08/2012 21:49

Thank you yes it was fab!

Pensioners are usually the first to moan kids are on the streets or in the way or should be seen and not heard etc So I was fully expecting something like he had shouted at the man for using the hand dryer which he hates but has coped better by just sliding his back along the wall to the way out instead of hitting the ground now.

DS has asked me several times now how I thought he was at swimming and did I see him do this and did I see him do that :) which I obviously praised him up big time for. He is going again tomorrow and wants to so that is a good sign.

What has made my day is that I have spent the whole time since I took him out of that terrible school helping him social wise with queing up and paying for shopping etc and even though we have had the hell of a time of meltdowns with the not going out to play anymore. (Tried but the kids out there are eating him alive) and having to restructure his routine and put in a lot more exercise where the play out covered its not been easy but at least his actions today were volountarily done of his own accord so something is sinking in Grin

NoHaudinMaWheest · 09/08/2012 23:06

Oh well done to your DS and to you because it isn't easy managing everything to get results like that.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2012 23:08

That is really lovely :)

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 09/08/2012 23:48

What a good day, (ignoring the child in the pool, but I would hope the new school could do some sort of 'invisible disability' awareness for his class?) I bet that old gentleman made your day, except for the granny comment! Smile

troutpout · 10/08/2012 06:50

What a lovely boy
Grin

streakybacon · 10/08/2012 06:58

That's lovely. Your boy sounds ace Grin.

chuckeyegg · 10/08/2012 07:07

That's so nice to read, well done to your DS I'm sure he will grow up to be a fabulous young man.

I'm sad we can't see you this summer. We popped up to Norfolk to see my Auntie and we went on the beach and DS asked to see you both by name! You both made a great impression on him. :)

starfishmummy · 10/08/2012 09:02

2old2beamum · 10/08/2012 10:23

BTW I would object to the granny bit I bet you look like his sister.

Oh thank you :) Yes I am still grinning now. Had a visitor from the ASD team this morning and I was telling her all about it. She has 4 boys all grown up now and is very experienced and understanding. DS has clicked with her too. She too said she used to dread it when anyone came up to her too because it was so natural to expect the negative.

She has given me some great tips and some new cards for DS to use as DS wont ask for help with anything due to failure and so the anger builds when he cant do something. He used them 3 times already! I am hoping this helps with the other battles he is having with himself.

Sorry 2 old! I wont try to dig myself out of a hole for fear of getting deeper Grin I think I was trying to say that you more often than not hear the louder moaners and letters in the local rag are full of "oh the skateboarders have nothing better to do than terrorise" etc To be honest we hear so much negativity about our children dont we that we cease anything good with both hands and hold tight :)

chuckey :) I am sorry we wont see you! You will have to wellies on in the winter and come beach stomping then :) Tell your lovely young man we havent forgot him either or those smiley blue eyes of his. Just told DS that he had asked for him and DS said to tell him he will go to the shop and pick a spade ready for when he sees him next.

Off in a sec for day 2s swimming!
