My daughters appointment has come through from the child development centre at the hospital, she has been referred by the gp for assessment. She is seven and I an wondering what to tell her, she will obviously want to know where we are going?

does she go to school?

can you use any issues/incidents from there to start a discussion?

My DS is 11 and we recently went for our first appt re. dyspraxia, I told him it was about the things he finds hard eg. Holding cutlery, tieing shoelaces and riding his bike. I said that although they can't make him be able to do these things easily they MAY be able to find ways to help and that this is why we were going to see someone.

Thanks, I guess I will just tell her it's to see if they can help with things like her tiptoe walking and reading issues etc. She has low self esteem so I don't want her to know that they are seeing if anything may be different with her if there isn't iyswim.

i'd be very wary of talking about helping and fixing physical traits tbh, they won't be able to fix them, but a dx will help to explain them to her and others.

can you call the CDC to ask exactly what they'll do on the 1st appt? then talk her through that?
