I have a lovely patient, calm, unintrested lab avalible for walks/stroking sessions.

my friends sister has autism and downs and she loves dogs, particularly walking them. she wont let my boy sniff stuff or wee on stuff and she does not have very good language so she shouts at him and shakes the lead a lot but he pays no attention to that and just carrys on walking.

she loves meeting up with him and is usually not happy to give him back (cue all of us jumping in the car until she drops his lead!) she is a runner, so always as to hold someones hand but when she walks my boy she gets freedom because she will not (for love nor money!) let go of the lead and my boy will stop when told to!

He is extremely chilled out, he does not jump or lick, he hardly takes notice of other people mummys boy, but is very happy to stand there and be stroked or walked. He is not in the least bit excitable and is totally bomb proof! (we actually took him and my other dog to the local fireworks display, he didnt bat an eye lid!)

I wanted to make his services know to anyone that wants to socialise their DC with a nice calm dog to help get used to them? help with a fear of dogs? or just for something nice and calming to do!

i posted in SN because of how much my friends SN sister enjoys her walks!

I'm sure you could register with Therapy Pets or pets for therapy (called something like that) and find lots of different settings where your dog would be very beneficial....

Local nursing homes, etc...there must be links on-line you could find for this...your dog would be assessed for the job and given a special 'jacket' or lead and registration as a working pooch

Maybe your Vet would have some idea about this

Brilliant, useful and very rewarding for you and pooch Grin

Wonderful idea and say the same, register with pets as therapy.

I did look into pets as therapy, but looking through what they are looking for he didn't seem to fit. They do an assessment where they ask comands of him and how happy he is to be fussed etc. And he will not listen to anyone but me and is not a dog that thrives on fuss. He is not a peoples dog in the sense they want. He is happy to stand and be stroked, but he would not go up to someone to get fuss. This is why he is ideal for people who are scared, or not sure. PAT dogs seemed to want a really social dog that listens to everyones comands.

Reading that back he sounds a right horrible dog! Basically he doesn't seem to fit what they want and ask for but is perfect for people who are scared or unsure. He will not seek out attention, but will stand and receive it. He will not lick or be excitable etc. He is just a very calm patient disintrested dog!

I wish I lived in herts because he sounds perfect! Dd loves dogs but doesn't like them to jump up at her. I am sure there will be others who will love him.
