This but not this... things that make you go "eeeeeeeeek"

Ah, those glorious summer holidays. Those relaxing sunny days where you can lounge in the garden in a lawn chair with a Brew or Wine and watch the children play happily in the garden.....

oh wait... children playing happily?? I've obviously, in my overtired delirious state, wandered into someone else's garden.... (and sunny? I've wandered into someone else's country, as well!) Hmm

DS2 has a multitude of things going on, and some are more "eeeeeeek" than others to me. For instance...

I can handle the ongoing monologue, but not a gazillion questions expecting an answer (and especially not the MarioKart7 characters, cars, and courses quiz!).

I can handle the running around all over the place, but not the climbing up practically over my head or using my leg as a springboard to move this way or that.

I can handle the choosiness....take your time... pick whatever you like... but then TELL me what you're picking... not "this one... no.. no... no... not this one, THIS one... " not pointing, no description, no words other than "no" and "this one" ... it's especially aggravating when it's a DVD... the boy can read, for heaven's sake... so I say "come over here and show me which one." Cue exasperated sigh (very much like my own Blush so I suspect I know where he copied that!) and then he says "THIS one!!" Hmm

I can handle the expected increase in snacking due to additional activities, but not the loop stuck on "can I have a snack? can I have a snack? can I have a...."

I can handle later bedtimes, but not both boys shrieking at each other for a couple hours before settling down. Each in their own rooms, but can see each other (and reach just enough to pass things back and forth - all the better to fight over!), so one will shut his door, prompting the other to demand the door be opened, then the OTHER one will shut his door while the first one demands the door is opened. Then they're both singing as loud as they can, trying to drown each others' songs out. Hmm Yes, bedtime is fun around here.

I'd just like to get through the summer holidays without feeling like I am single-handledly supporting Bargain Booze or Cadburys. Is that too much to ask? Hmm (According to DH, these are acceptable businesses to support [
grin])

Oh I feel your pain Triggles. You have just described our house perfectly! Grin

I have now resorted to telling ds to 'stop talking now please' and when he asks why, telling him it's because 'Mummy's ears are exhausted'! Grin

Like you, I can cope with monologuing, its the constant questions that drive me to distraction and if he doesn't get an instant answer he starts saying "Mummy? Mummy? Mummy?" then repeating the question a few times, then going back to the "Mummy?". In all honesty, my ears are genuinely exhausted - as is my brain.

With all three at home and all of them in an extremely demanding mood I am starting to understand what sensory overload feels like. If by any chance there is a two second break in the chaos and I actually experience silence (very unlikely) I find myself going into shock!

The snack thing has this week been replaced by "Can I have some Kendal Mint Cake please?" because I gave in and bought a big block for the dcs to share when we went to Go Outdoors last week. (Cunning ploy that one, as all three dcs love investigating their tent displays and it keeps them happy and most importantly, not arguing, for a couple of hours. Wink)

All three of mine have also decided that they have to be leaning or sitting on me 24/7 as well. It's normally just ds1 that leans and the other two are happy with cuddles when required, but no, this week all three have turned into wriggling toe-jabbing limpets. Of course they have cleverly coincided this with a time when all my muscles are already hurting constantly, so every jab is twice as painful. Hmm

We don't do later bedtimes, I couldn't handle it and fortunately ds1 likes his routine, but like yours, mine are all hyped up and winding each other up every night. Fortunately for me dh does bedtime duty, so I sit down here and hide until he's subjugated them! Grin

I've been prowling the kitchen looking for chocolate and at one point was seriously tempted by ds2's chocolate reindeer that's been in the fridge since Christmas. Dh saved the day by running to the corner shop and coming back with some Galaxy and a mini Toblerone, gawd bless the fella! Grin

Only ..... oh no! Only five weeks to go!

I've never actually had Kendal Mint Cake. We have a Go Outdoors by MIL's house, I may need to take the boys there for a look at the tents. Grin

DH has just offered to go pick up some chocolate honeycomb for me at the corner shop. I'm tempted.... Grin

you are describing our house. just alternating chocs and fruit so i don't feel so guilty! so at least i get my 5 a day. it is exhausting when they talk non-stop all day long, got to mend the swingball now, trying to get the pole back in to the bottom, how else am i supposed to de-stress while making changes to dd statement and try keeping the house in a reasonable state, blow the ironing pile. only 3 more days before dh has a day off, so i can plan my escape for a hour or two.

That was so funny Triggles. Like the others - I so identified with your scenario, just had to substitute other companies to support Grin
Do you think the constant questions could ever make your ears bleed? I've often wondered.
DS3 is in particularly annoying mode atm. He is copying everything that everyone is saying. So he is not only copying the constant questions, but also my exasperated answers.
I also remember that annoying 'being used as a climbing accessory' phase - painful isn't it! Thankfully DS is too big now and has realised that I just collapse under the weight - so not of much use Grin
