Positive step forward - but aaargh!

Ds1 has just sat and watched My Fair Lady all the way through with me. Given his phobia of 'movies' this is an important step forward, being the third film we have been able to get him to watch so far this year. (First one was a Pokemon film, second Puss in Boots - which was a biggie, being a big modern feature film - and now this one.)

But .... blimey, the questions! Shock MFL is one of my favourite all time films and he kept up a pretty much constant barrage of questions regarding the interaction between characters, why they did and said things etc. Most recent ones being "Why is he signing about getting married if he doesn't want to get married? Why does he want to get to the church on time if he doesn't want to get married?" "Why is he celebrating if he's sad to be getting married?" .... AAARRRGH!

He's enjoyed the songs, but been totally unable to get the social aspects of the story. Funnily enough, he doesn't seem to thing Henry Higgings is rude or insensitive at all! Grin

We have bought Star Wars the Original Trilogy to take on holiday with us, as he's desperate to watch them so he can talk about them with his friends at school. Not sure if he'll manage to watch them, but if he does I'm now wondering whether the rest of us will be able to hear a word of it through his questions. Grin

Grin Ah bless him!

You know this could be your next venture in life. Recording all your DS questions on tape and then providing sky TV or DVD companies subtitles for AS children, full explanation of contents of film, relationships and background props (my DS is into whats happening on screen everywhere BUT the actual acting lol) All parents have to do is press the Orange (substitute parent questioning button)Grin

Grin That's a great idea coff33. I have already packed the popcorn for our hols - must remember to pack the dictaphone as well now. Wink

We don't seem to get it so much with cartoons/animation. I sometimes wonder if that's because it's quite slapstick and exaggerated or because there's so much happening on screen that, like your ds, he is so busy watching what's going on that the actual plotline completely passes him by.

Does he pre-empt what is going to happen? DS1 is a pain for that.He will sit and ask questions throughout everything - including news bulletins? Our constant answer is 'listen, and you will find out if that happens'

moosemama · 04/08/2012 17:09

No, it's me that does the pre-empting in our house Blush dh gets really mad with me for it and I am now banned from any attempts at guessing the ending, because he says I always spoil the end of the film for him. Grin

We use the 'If you listen you will find out.' line on ds as well - not that it makes any difference. Grin

Don't think its the first time I've said that our DSs could be twins moose

coff33pot · 04/08/2012 18:21

oh yes we get the "is he going to do this" or is "he going to do that" and when we say no we get the "I think you might be wrong there" or "why do you think no?" Grin

"LISTEN" is one worn out word throughout anything day to day in our house lol!
