Hi I put my dla renewal in in May and it expires 23 august. Rang them today and still no one has looked at it! Do payments and carers just stop when dla runs out?? They said they always get behind in the summer which doesn't help me! Also means if they decide to write to doc ill be waiting even longer

As far as I know, once your renewal date is up, the payments stop.

It is shocking that no-one has looked at it yet when you send it in May.

They may be in the process of waiting for a response from your Doctor, but I've never been told that over the phone. I have just been informed via post that they had written to the people I had named on the claim form. It doesn't sound like you are getting an efficient service. Sorry. Not sure what you can do.

Maybe someone with more experience than me will be along in a bit.

Thank you. No I asked on the phone if they were waiting for anything from me/doctor and she said no that no requests for info had been sent

If they have it and they're waiting to look at it, then you won't lose anything if you're still entitled. Either they'll carry on making the payments while they look at it - leaving you with an amount to pay back - or, more likely, they'll stop them and then, if they renew, credit you with a lump sum in back payment. You won't lose any money due to their delay.

I have noticed that it is taking much longer to get a decision. I think it's because they are taking a lot more time over the forms than perhaps they used to.

Hmm trying to see if they can claim you're not actually disabled, no doubt.

Great thank you. I assume carers will just stop as well then. What a pain!

I think you'll find that they will do their utmost to get the renewal through in time as it's much more hassle to input it as a new claim and organise back pay (used to work in the benefits office many moons ago) I always send my renewals a fortnight before the deadline and it's never expired yet Wink

Ah that's a relief insanity, although woman on phone said they work on them in strictly date order and they're currently doing two weeks before I sent mine in. God knows what it will be like wen PIP comes in!!
