Does she see an OT at all? Our OT put in for Mac Major for DS2 when he was 4yo. While he does have dyspraxia and hypermobility, it's more for the issues caused by ASD & ADHD that we needed it. We discussed with her that it was a combination of his refusal to walk, meltdowns, shutdowns (complete collapse and won't move or respond), overload of sensory input needing a safe place to relax when out, easily tired (again, especially when overloaded), safety due to being a runner with no sense of danger. But also because he's getting big enough now that if any of these DO happen, we cannot simply pick him up and carry him long distances without risking back injury. I've already injured my back twice doing this.

I'd like to think if any of these apply, they might reconsider for you.

My wheelchair service wouldn't give me one either but I could have a childs wheelchair!!! Crazy!!!

I was looking for a second hand Mac Major and a very kind mumsnetter gave me hers.

It's still going strong!!!

marnes list of pushchairs for the older child:

Jane Slalom
Mountain buggy (not the newer one)
Urban detour (older model)
Phil and teds sport
baby jogger

Have tried and tested all apart fron the baby jogger (but have heard great things about it).

Dd2 is 6, we used the Jane and the mountain buggy when she was 4/5, we now have a sn mountain buggy which we got off of e-bay which should last her a few years.

Thank you all so much I might
Look into getting a major from eBay as hopefully that would last her awhile

We bought a second hand major from eBay as well, as we wanted a wc from WCS. Not asd though. There are usually a few for sale. Don't forget to check what comes with it - usually just the footplate, so if you want any other accessories, you sometimes have to get them separately. 3yos look kinda small in a major, but they do grow into them!!

I second the mountain buggy! I got one of the older syle ones (off ebay) for DS3 (who is 3.7, but looks over 4), and it's very sturdy.

Hi - I have a baby jogger for DD (2.4).

It's great, in terms of steering, support for DD and ease of opening / closing, but....

we're currently in the process of trying to find her a new one as my DD now refuses to get in it (we're talking full on tantrum). I'm assuming that it is because it has quite high sides so it restricts her view (and my DD does like to wave & shout hello at any random person she sees! Wink ). So you may want to try it out first before thinking of buying one.

I have a babyjogger city classc (like the elite linked to but with a squarer hood). It's the best pushchair I've ever owned.

My dd (3.6 and to be honest no longer much of a pushchair user) still has loads of room in it, you can fold and unfold it one handed and it turns/steers really easily, even with a largish child in it.

We don't use it a lot anymore, only really if dd is unwell or overtired, although we took it to a music festival earlier this year and it coped admirably with considerably muddy conditions, as well as providing the perfect place for dd to sleep while we watched the later bands.

Probably the only downside for some people is the weight of it, it is heavier than say a Maclaren, but imho not so heavy that it's a problem to lift and I can lift it in and out of the boot one handed.

There is a special needs buy and sell group on fb if you search it.

We've got a Mamas and Papas Herbie and it's really good.

It was the only parent-facing pushchair I could find unless I wanted to buy an entire system for £600! We paid £150 for it in the sale.

DS stayed parent-facing until about 3 months ago (he's 3.5) when he started craning round to see where he was going. Up until then he got separation anxiety unless he faced me. Today he got upset because we went to a different shop so I was able to quickly turn it back to face me again.

The seat is quite high up with a bar across the front we hang buggy books from. This stops him from bending forward to grab the front wheels which he does in an umbrella buggy.

The only downsides are that it has air tyres (2 punctures in 2 years) and it doesn't fold flat. Not an issue with a people carrier, it fits in the back of our Galaxy as it is.

been using a quinny zapp for the last few months, its suppose to be up to age 4 so just thought i'd try it out, its great because he cannot reach the front wheel, he could in his maclaren quest. when he is throwing a tantrum i am worried about the balance of it but think we will get another 6 months out of it

jicky · 04/08/2012 21:02

Where are you based?

I have an old mountain buggy sitting in the garage if you want. My NT children were still able to use it at 3. It's functional rather than elegant but might fill a gap until you find something more suitable.

Not too far from me then. If you are interested in the mountain buggy send me a pm and we can sort it out.

lisad123 · 05/08/2012 18:34

We have mac major but dd has autism and physical problems too.
If depends on size of your dd but a mountain buggy is a great buggy too
