IPAD Apps to help DS 2.5 with (undiagnosed) ASD

I went to a meeting last week given by a lady from the National Autistic Society. She was FAB

A member of the audience asked about the benefits of using IPads to help pointing, communcation, education etc.

Lady said she had heard good things about Ipads and I was just wondering if anyone is using them to help with their ASD/NT children and what apps you use?

We are still waiting to see a Paed for DS but i suspect he is somewhere on the spectrum. DS has SALT and portage.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry I don't know of any but I have been considering getting one myself and I know there have been a few threads on here before about good apps to use, have a search through previous threads for ipad apps and I'm sure loads will come up. I think one that sounded good to me was something bear? Hth

Just on a fun basis as he is 2.5 I would look at what programmes on tv he likes as there are great apps for night garden, tellytubbies, timmy time and waybuloo. They are interactive, encourage looking, speech, discussion with mum and so on. Ask your SALT what type of app would suit your DS. On the communication level look at something that offers simple choices: Do you want an ice cream or chocolate buttons (depending on the level of his current understanding).

Hi my dd has an ipod touch as easier for her to carry around she's got loads of free apps and some I paid for. Ages got some ABA type apps on there that help with facial expressions she's also got one called gremlin and when you talk it repeats what you say so very good in getting them talking

For SALT I've been getting some of the 'fun decks', very focussed but also very fun. Just do a search for 'fun deck' in the education category
