Tell me about them? Been looking for ds2 (HFA) and was shocked at how costly they are but dr thinks would help him so am looking at what we should be getting for him.

Any recommendations? And anyone had one on prescription?

Our ds has one, we tried it at home with not much success. School felt one would be useful for use in the classroom (occ therapy recommendation) but we needed to supply it. I was very shocked at the price. Our lovely occ therapist told me another parent had sewed together some of those lavendar heat pads you can put in the microwave. I went to bodycare and bought 3 at 2.99 and sewed them together. Exactly the right size and weight for ds who is nearly 5. The one occ therapy lent to us to trial was identical to the one i made.

Word of advice if you plan to make your own blankets rather than lap pads, they should be no heavier than 10% of body weight plus 1 lb max.
Sadly a child died in USA after being wrapped in a weighted blanket and left Sad it's very very unlikely if weight is correct.
If you are handy with a sewing machine, they aren't that difficult.

lisa Sad that is awful. It actually makes me reluctant to get one. I am crap at sewing

I highly recommend one, but they need to be safe. Article here

I made one for DS when he was 2 and just not sleeping - he used to roll himself up in his duvet. I used a thick cotton sheet and poly beads bought from ebay. It was a huge success - he slept much better.

DS no longer needs it so it has been donated to his special school.
