My friend gave birth to a baby that has a few problems. He will be 3 weeks old this week and, I know it sounds silly, but he needs 24 supervision as he could stop breathing at any time. Is she entitled to carers allowance or anything like that as she is not able to return to her job. He will begin the long trawl of hospital appointments next month so it is not practical to start her job as yet, so money is getting tighter and tighter and she is finding it increasingly difficult to afford the childcare for her 3 year olds whilst she takes the little fella to the appointments. Can anyone suggest any help available.

Sorry, should read 24 hour.

might be worth trying. But unlikely as you have to prove that you have to give more care than you would to a baby or child of the same age.

Thanks very much for your replies.I will pass this on to her tommorrow. The little man has a severe cleft pallette, a very short tongue and did not breath for 8 minutes when he was born. He has to be laid constantly on his side as lying on his back makes him stop breathing, even feeding him is a major thing as he has to work so hard his breathing suffers.
