Hi there...

It was last day at nursery for my 4 yr old boy who has a severe language disorder, still communicates using single words. Because of his communication probs it has a huge impact on his behaviour and i think they see him as a conplete burden and has often told me what a "nightmare" he has been. He has very short attention span and will have his own agenda at nursery and not always comply to their rules, make a mess and not tidy up etc. climbing etc etc. Anyway today I got his nursery leavers certificate and it said the following about him:

You are a very special boy,
We wanted you to know,
What fun it was being your teacher,
How fast the time did go!
Please remember to say hello
As through the years you'll grow
Try to learn all you can,
There is so much to know,
The one thing we tried to teach you,
To last your whole life through,
Is to know that you are SPECIAL
There is no one else like you!

It pissed me off. But am I being unreasonable to think this is patronising and inappropriate?

is it not a generic poem, given to all the children?

I can't rememebr quite what it said, but I know dd1 got a similar cutesy poem, with her hand print on, all laminated, when she left her ms pre-school. but all the children did.

liek the cutesy poem complete with drawing of teapot and with a teabag stuck on it that I got for mother's day, iirc, or the generic football picture that dh always gets for father's day (could not be further from dh's interests, and anyone who has met him knows this!)
