Let me know if you find a way.

misdee · 04/03/2006 22:14

i bought the bassets chewy ones, that didnt work either. do you want them to try with your dd? i can send you the rest of the pack ,its a blister pack, only one or 2 have gone.

does she eat cereal? What about a kiddy cereal, and put it in the cereal milk. Just a little bowl of something rubbish after her good breakfast, as a pudding typ theing?

misdee · 04/03/2006 22:16

nope, wont touch cereal.

oooo eye-q sent one of their creamier oil thingys, might try mixing that one tomorrow.

Have posted on a separate thread about this, so apologies for repeating, but BIBIC nutritionist suggested we try crushed seeds (esp hemp) in food instead of oils. I've got some (from Waitrose) and they're pretty small. Mixed them into DS2's bolognaise tonight and he didn't notice. Wouldn't work if your child will only eat separate foods though, like DS1. I don't think you can heat them (and retain nutritional value)so have to be mixed into things after cooking unfortunately.

Bassetts do a multivitamin Omega 3 with dhas etc, Just like a jelly sweet with an orange/lemon/citrus taste which my dd1 will eat no probs. dont know whether that would be suitable? I did try the capsules and that was a big failure! she said they tasted of .... FISH!!! well what did i expect!

I have only found these sold in our local Sainsburys, Boots dont seem to sell them.

Tiggiwinkle · 04/03/2006 23:29

My DS loves the Eye-Q smooth-he will eat it on its own-but will not take the oil version.
I am not sure if the Bassetts ones contain a comparable amount of the oils-some of the cheaper ones dont compare well with the eye q/eskimo oil types in terms of their content.

misdee · 04/03/2006 23:31

she wont touch the bassett chewy ones. i bought some the other week. dd1 will eat the vitamin ones tho. she doesnt need the extra omega-3, it doesnt have any impact gviing her fish oils.

I did wonder whether it had comparable amounts and I have been thinking I really ought to search for an alternative.

cazH · 04/03/2006 23:48

I use the liquid form and put a couple of drops into orange juice. Give it to them when they have just eaten and are thirsty then they dont notice!

singersgirl · 04/03/2006 23:54

I used to put flaxseed oil into DS2's fruit purees and yoghurts - he didn't seem to notice, but he was only about 18 months at the time. Now he swallows 2 capsules at the same time (he's 4.5), but I can't get it into 7 yr old DS1 by any means, fair or foul. Let me know if you succeed.

I was reading this thread on sat and have just read something interesting in a magazine. Have just spent ages trying to find your thread again Misdee!
St Ivel Advance is a fresh milk enriched with Omega 3, maybe this would help?
I am lucky with my ds who is 6, I have been giving him Eye-Q fish oils for 18 mths now and he takes it fine. Funnily enough he didn't like the chewable orange ones at all.
Good luck

misdee · 06/03/2006 14:44

i have heard about the 'smart' milk, apparently you need to drink gallons of the stuff. but might be worth a go as she does drink loads of the stuff. lol.

ds is on the Efalex chewies whcih seem relatively higher in the EPA's etc than some of the others. To begin with he hid them but having made such a fuss initially ,he actually chose them again yesterday (3 for 2 in Boots £4.99 a packet of 30, 2 per day). Part of it may be the texture of capsules and the oil , especially for children with sensory issues.

ntt · 06/03/2006 16:00

ds wouldn't take it if I put it in his milk, so I just open a capsule and squirt the oil in his mouth and give him his milk afterwards, he doesn't mind one bit.
