We got the call this afternoon - DS2 has a place at the SS we asked for!! We've just beenn out to get uniform and info and took him with us. He absolutely loved it there!!

Soooo thrilled! (and unbelievably relieved that we don't have to go to tribunal!!)

starlight thanks. Yes, I have to say it's a little jolt in the confidence area for us.

ellenjane Yep. Starts in September. His uniform is already purchased and everything (quickly before they changed their mind hahahaa). We've told him and he's very pleased to be going there... because "it has a fun playground and it's quieter there."

It will make morning school runs interesting, but it does at least give me 20 minutes from his school to DS3's preschool. Grin I'll have to post the route or something so all the local MNers can watch out for my crazy driving to get there on time. Grin

Is it over 2 miles? If it is, they should offer transport. I don't think it is, though. Just a bugger to get across town. Still, that's a minor issue. It's still fantastic. Grin You may need a statement review early on to get it put in part 4.

I think it would depend on how the distance is measured - As the crow flies it's less than 2 miles, but there isn't a straightforward route, so driving it's just over 2 miles I think.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 21/07/2012 09:50

It's a 'safe' walking route that needs to be under 2 miles, which can be different to the best driving route as it can use pathways and lanes etc. I don't know quite where you live, Triggles, just the general area. It may be worth persuing as many DC get transport to that particular school. Trouble is that transport is with an approved driver, (usually Denwells) and the child goes alone, so you have to be happy that they would cope with this and you also miss out on any quick chats to the teachers.

No I wouldn't opt for the taxi/transport, but PP previously mentioned a petrol allowance, which would help pay for the increase in petrol costs per month for us. I'll check to see if it's 2 miles.

Okay, I've checked it. It's JUST 2 miles exactly. lol So that's why no mention of transport. That's fine, we'll deal. We were walking (using maclaren) to school previously as much as we could to cut it down. But with 2 different schools, driving is needed now. ah well

You might be able to argue that he wouldn't be safe walking even under 2 miles due to his 'running' tendencies! Grin But that probably wouldn't help with a petrol allowance. Sad I think a lot of the SS have different start times to try to help with the 2 schools scenario.

Triggles, I had missed the thread! Well done.

EllenJane I'm not going to worry about it. I'm so pleased he's going to the school, we'll just deal with the added petrol costs. That's life, and all that, eh? It does have an earlier start time, so that's alright. Will mean DH & I both doing separate school runs after next year, as DS3 will be in reception and they both get out at the same time. Oh well!

mariammariam thank you.

I posted this mainly because I am so thrilled it's gone through, but also because so many of us despair on here (ourselves included) when it looks like we're going to have to go the tribunal route just to get our children in the appropriate schools. hopefully it'll provide a bit of a boost of hope to any of us that are currently struggling with it - I know every time someone on here posted that the LA changed their mind rather than go to tribunal, it gave me a bit of hope that ours would too.

justabout nope, not patronising. Honestly, I'm proud of myself. I worked really hard (with the lady from PP) putting everything together to show that he was much better off at the SS. All the paperwork we have to do for so much, it's just nice to see positive results (although I will admit that we have been incredibly lucky in some things for DS2!!).
