DLA appeal, what happens?

Got the reconsideration decision today which was a no, so the next step is appeal. What happens now- the letter says HM Courts and Tribunals will be in touch, does anyone have an idea of how long they might take to get in touch and when teh appeal might be? Bit concerned as we have a holiday booked for August and I'm worried it may well happen then.

What also happens at an appeal? I contacted CAB who are helping with it and passed me onto teh County welfare benefits team who are my representatives. What will they do?

And I just want to flop and cry, I feel so useless and that I've failed my son. Why does this all make you feel like you're shit, that you're making mountains out of molehills, that you're lying, why is it always such a bloody fight to do anything.

A desicion maker of the dwp will look at your case again. And only of they they stick to their decision, the case will actually go to tribunal.

I have not been to tribunal, so no experience here but we were turned down initially, turned down again after reconsideration. Dwp changed their mind when we put in an appeal and we finally got dla for DD (Without tribunal).

Can't remember the time scales but the actual appeal day I turned up and the rep from DWP had looked at the case and decided that it was too strong and decided to concede. He actually said he couldn't understand why they had turned me down. I went in anyway and the panel of three went briefly through the case and signed off on it. It didn't seem as formal as other tribunals I have bee n to.

We also had to go to tribunal and also got it without me needing to attend. They rang on morning of tribunal and said we could have it and save myself a trip.
You can continue to send information in. My mums tribunal took months so don't panic about aug Wink

I'm awaiting a tribunal date for my son who had his DLA reduced post 16. We had the Courts & Tribunals enquiry form very soon after the DWP letter informing us that we hadn't been successful with the appeal. It did say in the advice guide that they are dealing with high volumes of appeals and that there is likely to be a delay in dealing with ours.
I am encouraged by the previous posts that it won't be as terrifying as I had imagined. Could really do without another battle though :(

Don't worry about august. The hearing probably won't be for about 3 months. If you have arranged for someone to represent you they will be sent the submission papers (a bundle of papers stating the DWPs case). Any other evidence you can get from drs etc can be added to this. Good luck.

Thank you all, got the tribunal letter and the letter from my representative today so can get all the paperwork sent off. It also says that it is likely to be 4-5 months away- feel a fool now for worrying about August! Blush. Will continue to keep a diary and send paperwork in.
