I have just been perusing these spreadsheets.

They make for interesting reading for anyone wanting to find out how and where pupils are placed in relation to mainstream, special school and resourced units within their particular LEA.

There's also data on how many children were issued with statements following assessment and comparisons between things like SA, SA+ and Statementing numbers.

Just thought I'd post it up here in case it was of use to anyone else.

Ooh, where did you find out about these?

WetAugust · 18/07/2012 22:33

Fascinating.

Surprised that your old friends fared so well Star. But can see why you now have new chums.

It proves the 'Notingham don't issue statements' belief is wrong.

Wouldn't want to live in Lincolnshire Sad

Frustrated, couldn't open them - must try again tomorrow on less ancient computer ...

moosemama · 18/07/2012 23:09

Well actually, I just started pootling around on the site after reading the Oxbridge etc threads on the main board earlier this evening and kind of happened across then. Blush

My first instinct was that you all already knew about them and I was just being slow on the uptake, so I'm relieved to hear it wasn't just me that didn't know they'd been released.

I reckon they've probably kept them quiet and not 'announced' their release, so that no-one publicly comments.

hmmmmm - my county outside of london has the highest % of children with statements placed in independent schools - might have something to do with the fact we have no special schools in county im fighting for an independent school at the moment so it gives me hope

moosemama · 18/07/2012 23:22

Also discovered you can finally access individual academies funding agreements (and therefore their SEN admissions policy, via this page.

Just click on the link in the box at the top 'Performance Table Section', search on the school you are interested in and the funding agreement comes up on the lower right hand side of the page.

How sad are we! Celebrating numbers on a sheet.... Wink

moosemama · 19/07/2012 09:52

Yes, but equally, how sad is it that we even need to look for this stuff in the first place. If the system was honest and accountable we wouldn't need the ammunition. Sad

Although, I will also admit to getting a rather embarrassing amount of enjoyment out of reading these sorts of statistics. Blush Grin

These stats are fantastic - yes I know that makes me very sad Wink

Does anyone know where to find stats that show placement by primary need by county - ie % of ASD placed in maintained mainstream, % with unit, % maintained special school, % independent special school etc?

tryingtokeepintune · 19/07/2012 10:35

Thank you for posting this moosemama. A lot of people I know will be interested in it.

Yes maria, we are all quite sad aren't we?

moosemama · 19/07/2012 10:59

KeepOn, I thought you could get that info off these stats using tables 22, 23 and 24 - although I don't think there data is there for independent schools - or am I misunderstanding what you're looking for?

Trying, you're very welcome. Smile

moose not doing it for me. Smile I want table 21 to give some extra info - I can see that my lea has x% of children in various settings but I would like to know how many of those in each setting have SpLD, MLD, SLD, ASD etc - can I piece it together - I thought I could find the SpLD in unresourced mainstream rather than special schools but my brain has stopped working and I need caffine.

TheTimeTravellersWife · 19/07/2012 11:41

Keepon -You could always send them an FOI request for the information via

www.whatdotheyknow.com

KOKOagainandagain · 19/07/2012 11:46

Ooh - I didn't know that I could do that - I think I have just found a new hobby!

moosemama · 19/07/2012 11:52

Table 22 gives you the number/% of state funded primary placements by need
Table 23 gives you the number/% of state funded secondary placements by need

So that at least gives you the numbers and % of children with SpLD (at either SA+ or Statemented) who are in standard, unresourced mainstream settings for primary and secondary pupils - but doesn't give you any info on how many might be in independent schools, home schooled or not accessing education.

Table 24 will give you the number/% of children with SpLD (at either SA+ or Statemented) who are in LA funded special schools.

It doesn't look like you can get much further than that though, as it doesn't give you total numbers and % of children by need for each LEA.

You're right, it would be more useful if they had presented more data by need as well as placement.

KeepOn has just posted what would have been my next suggestion. Smile

I suppose it gets even more complicated if you get into comorbids and multiple dxs, although I guess they use 'primary dx' only for data collection purposes? Confused
