ARRGGGHHH! Second sofa BLOODY broken. He won't be happy until there's not a stick of furniture left in the house

Don't bounce X, stop bouncing X, don't stand on it X, get down X, no X no X no X no X no X no X no.

And it doesn't make a blind bit of bloody difference.

We replaced the old sofa because he broke it. This one has been here since christmas and we've been fighting him off every since but he finally did it. He broke the fucker.

I am so pissed off. I am tired of replacing stuff. I am tired of my house always looking like shitty SHIT.

I am blatantly attention seeking for a bit of a pat on the shoulder and a "there there" Grin [needy emoticon]

There there! Smile

Can only think of strategies that sound like I'm teaching you to suck eggs. My mantra was, 'feet on the floor, it's not a trampoline!' Then I got a small indoor trampoline (not a rebounder, they are too firm) and abandoned my dining room to it. Of course, he still preferred the sofa, but at least I could move him to the appropriate bouncy apparatus!

HecateHarshPants · 12/07/2012 18:10

Grin thanks. I am in a foul mood. Sitting here watching him race around the room, not giving a shiny rat's arse about the sofa. Doesn't matter how many times I tell him to not do something, two seconds later - does it again.

And then comes the meaningless "sorry". Because he knows that's the required word. Not because he is.

This is my youngest I am on about, btw.

I may have to abandon MNing right now, I am in filthy mood and likely to bitch my way around the boards Grin

pssst - it doesn't look like shitty SHIT at all at your house. Or you put something in the coffee to distract me Wink

but a bummer about sofa replacement nonetheless.

and we have the bouncing with my DS to a degree as well. Fortunately it's mostly his already mildly knackered old bed rather than the settee. Yet... Despite having an indoor trampette.

bochead · 12/07/2012 18:15

This is how I felt when DS broke my metal bed - I just can't afford to replace it. Last sofa was £25 in the charity shop.

Modern furniture isn't bullet proof, so nowadays I work on the theory - if it's lasted 50 years it might just last a few more and head to the junk shops, thrift market and charity shops.

Sending you a Wine

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 12/07/2012 18:15

Better keep away from here, then! We are all sweetness and light. Wink

Go and be provocative on AIBU, always good for an argument. Grin Might join you later, failed an interview today and will be unemployed by next week.

HecateHarshPants · 12/07/2012 18:27

Thanks Light, you're very kind.

you're lying through your teeth, but kind nonetheless Grin

Thanks everyone. I know you all understand.

And people ask us what on earth we spend the DLA on, eh? Grin

I also get all my furniture from charity shops/ebay, bockead. It's just not worth doing anything else. The new suite he's just wrecked the sofa of was £100 off ebay. The dining table he's gouged a deep trough in Angry while I was in the kitchen was part of a full living room set of table and chairs, sideboard, unit and writing desk for £150. Writing desk long gone - they snapped the pull down table off

I keep looking at the dfs etc websites, dreaming of a nice suite Grin

Not lying at all. Standards of housekeeping at Light HQ since discovering the internet were shaky, and working five days a week has made them take a further nose dive...

JsOtherHalf · 12/07/2012 19:39

I know the bedroom furniture from this company is very robust, maybe the sofas would be as well? www.toughfurniture.com/

tallwivglasses · 12/07/2012 19:56

Hecate I feel your pain. I have wallpaper ripped off walls and gouged walls where the plaster used to be. I have fantasies about a vase of flowers and a fruitbowl on the dining room table.

It's bloody lucky we love 'em.

HecateHarshPants · 12/07/2012 21:17

This is why I don't have wallpaper. Although in places where the paint peels, they do chip away at it.

I did have a big sturdy glass vase on my hearth. It lasted ages (mainly due to my hysterical yelps of MIND THE VASE every time they went within 5 feet of it)

It's broken now Grin

Mind you, at least I can have books now. Time was when they'd get repeatedly thrown down the stairs. And anything behind the display case is safeish now. Although my youngest does keep hurling himself at it. Scares me to death that it's going to come down on top of him.

Most other ornaments are glued back together. They may look nice, but if you pick them up, most of them will come to bits in your hands Grin the back of the clock on the mantle is broken. the little table has 3 solid legs and one that is tacked back on.

And my cushions seem to double as hankies Hmm God knows what the neighbours think when they hear me yelping NOOOOO use a tissue not the cushion! Grin

It's very lucky we love them.

That stuff looks good, J. Thanks.

I know what you mean, Light. My place would currently have Kim and Aggie turning away at the door and running off screaming!

Yeah Grin the cream one? This one's green and wood. like this

Oh, we binned the trampoline.

They broke it Grin

But it's so nice to hear that people who visit think the place looks nice. All I see are the broken things we've hidden and the bits we've moved to hide stuff that's wrecked Grin

Definitely no wallpaper in this house that we've added, though DS1 still hasn't done a proper job of stripping his own room. We've even got them bunk beds now so the little beep can reach higher up the walls :o

It took him 2 weeks to gouge teeth marks into his new bed, btw.

Our sofas are 9 years old, at least. They bloody stink!

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 12/07/2012 23:11

i find heavy duty duct tape comes in useful to hold things together.

what has broken?

I think ours has only survived as he is the size and weight of a 2-3 year old.

we sppent a hell of a lot on new furniture, but went for custom made solid things with a survice that can be sanded down and reoiled to remove the biro/stamper ink/poo/wee/yogurt/crayon/pencil/lightmarks caused by rubbing with an antibac wipe.

I have teeth marks in the window sil and the paint is chipped despite having been done relatively recently.

I do not have mirrors or pictures or ornaments in the living room. they never went back in after we decorated. might invest in a tough mirror though.

HecateHarshPants · 13/07/2012 19:36

Slats have broken. He's done another one tonight. sofa officially wrecked Grin

It's my fault for buying one without checking the frame. If I had thought to ask about the frame before bidding, I never would have gone for it, because I knew as soon as I saw it that it wouldn't be long before it was broken!

And he's pulled down the blind at the landing window. Again. Most of the blinds have been reinforced by nailing them to a big block of wood and nailing the wood up. But it's only as strong as the nails.

Curtain pole's gone again.

He's also working on the tumble dryer. You have to push the door to open it, but he just won't. Door open towards you = pull. (door open away from you = push) So he pulls it. Every time. Pretty soon, the thing will break.

You've just got to laugh, haven't you? Grin

StabbyMacStabby · 13/07/2012 23:18

Would nabru sofas be any good to you? Not as cheap as charity shop/eBay but I can confirm they are robust. And the covers come off for washing. Ours has stood up to DS's trampolining, although I curtail any such activity short because we do not want to visit A&E again, do we? There are not enough chocolate buttons in the world...

thisisyesterday · 13/07/2012 23:38

ohhh hecate, this all sounds SO familiar!
i'd always just put it down to them being small boys rather than the whole autism thing... but maybe not! lol

you have my sympathy

does he like rules? ds1 responds (some of the time, which quite frankly is better than never) to "the rule is... "
