Blush He said how the TA was too weak and reported any little thing he did when kids without a TA were getting away with much worse. Also how being part-time for so many months has made him more anxious and very angry which has not helped his behaviour. How the PRU is totally the wrong environment for him and made him feel ill. Hope it all gets reported back to the school/county so they can reflect on their 'choices' like he always has to.Sad

Can DS put that in writing?

Being part-time utterly wrecked DS's self-esteem as he felt he wasn't good enough to be full time like the others.

coff33pot · 11/07/2012 21:25

Well good for him! Can get a more honest report than from the horses mouth :)

I am glad he got to express his feelings. I hope they will now listen to him x

PurplePidjin · 11/07/2012 21:28

Fabulous! Well done MiniBaps :o

Now let's hope they listen Hmm

bigbaps · 11/07/2012 21:33

Well he has a meeting at school next week and says he will tell them too! One thing I did find interesting was that he said no-one ever sees the HT apart from once a week when he talks in assembly about behaviour and the poor state of the schools budget. Think that is quite telling really.

WetAugust · 11/07/2012 22:06

Sounds like a very astute young man. Good for him.

PurplePidjin · 11/07/2012 22:14

Sounds like he needs to write a petition and collect signatures in the playground. PSHE project on Politics Wink

bialystockandbloom · 11/07/2012 22:36

Good for him!! Statements/ARs etc always make an explicit point of asking the child for their views (if able to express it) - well can't get much clearer than that! Hope things improve as a result.

Grin Clear, perceptive and accurate from his POV, what more could you want? Why Blush? He sounds great.
slacklucy · 11/07/2012 23:13

Well not too worried I suppose, but a bit anxious. And yes, he has used some choice 'Leonie lingo' a few times when discussing school so it can be a bit of a worry Smile. He is almost a teen but has always been quite 'vocal' which hasn't always gone down well at previous schools. I hope they will listen as there's no point asking for his views if not but we all know how it can be.....
I will suggest that he puts it in writing as a prompt I think.

Good for your DS, bigbaps for telling how it really is. My Ds is always complaining that he gets into trouble/detentions for minor issues because he has 1:1, when other children get away with far worse!

As for the HT - I think this says a lot about the school. My DS goes to an outstanding large secondary school and the one thing I hear parents comment on time and time again is how visible the HT is. He is also visible on a daily basis to the students. It goes a long way. My DD's school however is a different story. I have spoken to parents who say they wouldn't know the HT if they tripped over him - although that is unlikely as he seems to hide away in his office most of the time. I had a rare sighting of him the other week - the TA I was with at the time said it was the 1st time she had seem him in a long time too! The school is a 1/4 of the size of Ds's school!!!

Hopefully the EP will take your DS's comments on board. Is he due his annual review? There is a space for pupils comments on there which would mean it was officially recorded. Would also make sure you get a copy of the EP's report just to make sure it is an accurate reflection of the discussion!

Good for him.

And we only ever saw DS1 being part time as a very temporary measure. After a while, he was asking to go back in full time because he felt he was missing out. I'm set against a split placement for him in the future because I know he won't cope with it (plus, it's crap for continuity, as well as socially)

alison222 · 12/07/2012 16:55

Good for him Smile. If they asked for his opinion they should expect to get it warts and all.. I think it was fantastic that he had the insight as to what the problems are and can articulate it.
