My DS has been attending the language unit at school since January, he is thought to be ASD, and has interaction and communication difficulties, but since starting the language unit he has improved beyond belief.
He had a birthday party to go to last Saturday which was ten pin bowling, I took him along expecting him to cling on to we for dear life and not wanting to join in, so could'nt believe it when he was the first one called up to be shown how to play by a member of staff, he thought about it for a few seconds then off he went with her without a care in the worldSmile he had a lovely night.

This morning his teacher told me that yesterday he asked to join in group time with the other children on the floor, this is something he normally finds very difficult, and normally just watches from a distance. And yesterday was also the first time he joined in singing in assemblySmile and he is now playing well with other children in the playground instead of by himself.

I just cant believe the difference in him after only 6 weeksSmile
I am very happy

waterfalls - great news :):):)

My own dd (6) has come on leaps and bounds in the language unit she goes to. They really do bring them on loads.

Thankyou, it is great to see him a bit happier, oh and he now has an imaginary friend for company who often has him in stitches, apparently he is very funnyGrin

Wow! It's amazing what a difference the right placement can make.

I'm so pleased for you and your ds. :):):)

I wish I knew their secret, well obviously they are just highly tained, I wonder if there is such a thing as basic training on how they help with the communication problems, so parents can do their bit to help too.

I'm so jealous - our local Language Unit doesn't take children with ASD dx.
