I am glad to say that Dd3 has been to visit her new teacher today and she is really pleased with who she has got.

I am pleased too because he is a trusted and longstanding member of staff, he has got several children in his class with an assortment of SN's and will have extra TA's supporting.

It is such a relief, we have had a few weeks of her getting more and more uptight but now she can relax abit.

She has made a passport today to take to her new class and one of the one to one TA's who will be in her class is named on her passport as one of her special staff members should she need someone.

After 4 years of being in a crap school I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I think about everything that they are doing to support her.

A very happy mummyGrin

Thank you for that, I sometimes get very depressed at the continuous accounts of crap schools that don't bother with the slightest nod towards reasonable accommodation. Many of our children need very little in order to make school a positive and useful experience.
Hurray for next year! Smile

You're welcome fallen, I wasnt sure whether to post or not because I know some people will not be having such good news but then I thought we need some positive stuff sometimes when we put up with so much crap.

I sometimes take a break from sites when all the negativity about schools and teachers builds up to the point that I'me depressed about it before I even log on.
Posting good news gives us all the strength to wade through the shit and demand better for ourselves.
What with that and the teacher bashing threads on the main board, I'm surprised I ever stop playing majong and post!

Dont you dare keep this news to yourself! Grin

Fallen is right its uplifting to hear its working for some of our children. It shows not all is under a grey cloud all the time.

Glad for you and your DD :)

Nice to hear some positive news about transition Ineed. So glad your dd is happy and can relax and bit and look forwards to the summer holidays now.

My three dcs (gulp, even my baby - dd age 3 - is starting nursery in September Sad) have all had their transition orientation days today and they are all really happy with who they've got next year as well.

Ds1 is actually getting a teacher he had for six months a few years ago, when she used to be a supply teacher for the school and she is lovely and I think, quite fond of ds. She had him before he was diagnosed, during the time when he was really struggling with moving from infants to juniors and she instinctively did so many things that helped him. I am really pleased he's got her for his final year at primary.

Fallen, this year's class teacher has also been brilliant with my ds, as has his maths teacher. Personally, I think (in most cases) the individual teachers have been great - it's the SENCO and LEA, their lies and manipulation and their attempts to save money regardless of the cost to the child that make my blood boil. Of course there have been one or two notable exceptions, but that's a whole other thread. Wink

Very often I think teachers get caught in the middle and end up being in trouble on both sides, when in actual fact they have very little power and control over the situation. I do believe that most teachers are in the job because they want to make a positive difference to their pupils. That does come across, even when the school/SENCO/LEA won't support them in doing it.

Coff, we are eagerly looking forward to your good news threads next academic year. I am really excited for your ds going to his new school. Smile

You must post good news - it's what keeps us all going Grin

Fallen - I have been very good and have not bashed teachers for several weeks Grin. However, LA officials are fair game.... Grin

Ineed, honestly, I LOVE posts like yours. It gives so much hope and inspiration to keep searching if we know that there is something to search FOR iyswim.

I cant wait for DS to start and neither can he so its a huge difference compared to the last place.

In all truth though if DS schooling was left to the TAs he had he would have been fine. They were great, supportive and really tried there hardest on those all will fail days. I cannot fault a single TA. They were let down by the HT/Senco and I feel the recent academy status.

They also made a gross error of judgement in putting him initially with a brand new just out of uni teacher who personally was lovely but had never met a SN child let alone know how to handle one and support one and run a whole class by herself. Poor thing was thrown in the deep end which was unfair to her and certainly unfair to DS to be put with a floundering new teacher. Again she had to follow school wishes and protocol so she was let down too.

The last teacher............wants the HTs job and was just as bad as them.

Its got to be such nice feeling for you Ineed to be able to relax over the holidays knowing its all going to go smoothly for your DD!

Well... I still have some worries for Dd3 in september just because of the whole change thing and we are having massive changes at home due to Dd2 going away to residential college, but just knowing that the staff at the school are going to help us and that Dd3 will hopefully never again be left to be so anxious that she vomits is a great feeling.

To all those of you out there who are still searching for a half decent school I would like to say, dont give up. There are schools out there where the staff can meet the needs of our children. Where the HT's really get inclusion and have a good team around them to make it work.

Coff I know exactly what you mean about NQT's being in the deep end, something needs to be done about their training, Dd3 suffered at the hands of an NQT who was terrified of the HT when she was in yr3 at her old school. Good luck for SeptemberSmile
