Maudsley meeting tomorrow - I'm anxious

We have an assessment meeting at the Maudsley in London tomorrow with a view to Ds spending time there over the summer holidays to try to get his OCD under control again. He was there two years ago and it helped a lot and I am sure this is the only way forward now. However they are only going to agree to admit him if they are convinced that he is prepared to work with them. Given how difficult he finds communicating his thoughts and feelings and how difficult he finds the subject of his OCD this isn't a given. I think he will work once he is there but finds it difficult to think this through in advance. It also depends on health and SS having agreed on who is going to fund his discharge support. As far as I know they still hadn't done so on Friday.
I am still struggling with a ME relapse so not looking forward to the trip even though I have done it dozens of times before.
That's it really. Just wanted to vent.

Thanks all. It was exhausting for me so only getting round to replying now. Ds was actually impressive. He took part (no curling up in a ball), spoke about his needs and wants and agreed to try what was suggested. However the specialist OCD will have limited psychology cover over the summer so there is no point in admitting him then. Due to GCSE work it makes more sense for him to go after October half term.
As that is a long way off, the local pschologist is going to try working with him intensively over the summer. A new team for young people with complex needs is being set up locally and we should get cover from them for some evenings which is when problems are at their worst but not until end of August/September.
Meanwhile I have stressed that current relapse means I am not really coping and I need some kind of support now. Unfortunately DS's SW is off sick so I am dependent on others taking this on - and my hassling I suppose.

I hope this plan will work. Ds seems up for trying again at home, so can only hope for the best.

I am glad it all seems to be getting somewhere for you and DS :)

Good on him for taking part after a long journey too!

I hope they sort out some quick support for you due to your relapse. Have a good rest up now if you can you deserve it x

bassingtonffrench · 06/07/2012 10:12

well done to you and him.

Good to hear that your ds coped so well and was able to engage with the discussions. Glad that there are some sensible plans in place even if not as soon for some of them as you would have wanted.

I was really pleased at how DS reacted. Even with four professionals in the room, he was able to speak up though I could tell from his voice that he was really anxious. The Maudsley consultant who hasn't seen him since he was discharged was obviously impressed by how much he had matured and so happy for an admission to go ahead.
I am not sure how it will go at home - it is all too easy for him just to flake out here when the psychology work gets tough. However, he did tell the head of his support unit at school "I really need to get on top of my OCD" which is good progress as he usually closes down as soon as the subject is mentioned.
