Yes, an SN classified section would be good.

silverfrog · 02/07/2012 22:26

um, were there any complaints when moondog advertised her course (having paid for an advert first)?

I think it is absoutely fine for people who have paid for an advert to flag up the fact their advert is there (many posters do not stray outside this section, after all) - how else would the posters that the advertiser is trying to reach actually know that the advert was there, iyswim?

havign said that, maybe a SN classified is a good idea, although I rarely check other sections as all traffic is on SN: children.

mumblechum1 · 02/07/2012 22:49

That was my thinking, Silverfrog.

Mumblechum - your OP didn't annoy me. Thank you for the offer.

peggyblackett · 02/07/2012 22:56

FWIW, the SN board is different i.e. you have to 'opt in'. Plenty of posters here would not stray onto other boards. Therefore comparing it to S&B is comparing apples with pears.

SN posts don't appear in Active Convos. Lots of SN posters will come straight to this board, bypassing Talk. Chances are they would never see mumble's main ad, even if it were bumped. Everyone who uses the main talk boards will see S&B threads, so I agree that spam ads there would spam everyone - vair annoying.

We are different here :)

Catsdontcare · 02/07/2012 23:59

I think it was fine to post here no need to remove thread.

I capitulate. I suppose I'm irritated as I spend an awful lot of time worrying who will provide care for my profoundly disabled dd in the event of my dh and my deaths. We have sought legal advice, but a bit like an insurance policy you don't know of its any good until you need it. Therefore this particular offer is of great interest to me, but I would never have found it in Classifieds. Given the nature of the topic I am rather surprised anyone feels the nature to be such a jobsworth.

Anyway, hiding this thread now. I have enough crap to deal with daily without arguing the toss on here.

Im sorry mumble feels the need to abandon this thread. Wills and provision for their chilren is an important part of every parents life and even more so with SN children. I personally have never been to classified ads, maybe I would to a SN one, maybe not. Hmm

Who better to help with this difficult task of securing your child's future than someone who has walked the same path?

PS thin end of the wedge arguments have no sound philosophical basis Grin

Moodogs thread was different I think (only as I see it mind :)) as for a start it was all of us promting her and suggesting it would be good to have a conference/talk as such. This was well before it was posted up that one was going ahead. If I remember rightly Moondog herself immediately withdrew it and placed it out of SN.

A SN classified would be great. Perhaps a permanent sticky on the top or 2 the side would be useful to direct people there if they wish?

I mean no disrespect to mumbles thread at all. It is certainly food for thought for a lot of us here where the future of our children are concerned.

But what I am concerned about is that a lot of us didnt know who mumble was? I didnt bother even looking till now as I ignore adds/links selling anything incase it is spam.

There has been the odd strange advertiser on here over the last 18months I have been here. It would be hard to distinguish the real from the spam unless we regularly check with MN an add has been paid for?

A classifieds with some red flag somewhere for SN peeps to link to it may be the best route? :)

mumblechum1 · 03/07/2012 18:17

Hi, just dashing off out, but I mainly post in Legal as I've been a divorce/Wills lawyer for 25 years. Posting on MN since 2006.

Avoids saying huffily "Do you know who I am?" in case someone says yes, you're a dickhead Smile

OP posts:
silverfrog · 03/07/2012 18:28

I recognised you, mumblechum1 Smile - I have read (and benefitted from in various ways) your advice on divorce/separation/contact etc before now.

as an aside, (and I am only raising this here as it is possibly on MNHQs OTW list anyway, since they have posted on it) - how do MNHQ verify that posters have the qualifications they say they have when they take out adverts for work? is there a pre-vetting? or is it truly 'buyer beware'

we do not get that many adverts over here - the odd blatant app pushing, but not exactly overrun.

we 'know' moondog from her posting history, so I guess her thread (and I agree also all above board - she paid for her advert too) was more accepted. but one to ponder over if there ever is a SN classifieds section.

TheLightPassenger · 03/07/2012 18:31

yes, I have seen mumble post a fair bit over last few years, and she's always seemed a very reputable and pleasant poster, so a different kettle of fish to those who are just spamming to promote their services.

Triggles · 03/07/2012 18:44

I think though that we are often getting new posters as well, who won't know who is reputable and who isn't. Perhaps if a classified, then anyone that has used that particular service can put any positive feedback (or negative) on that particular ad thread.

mumblechum1 · 03/07/2012 22:55

yy, good idea, tho' my advert links to my website which has reams of testimonials from clients.
