Have not been on here for a while, ds 7 is aggressive obsessed with numbers, lines, orders, mute outside the house, meltdowns, he smears and wees everywhere, i dont leave house all weekend with him ect. After 5 years of doctor appointments, snotty parenting advisers and crappy sencos and other people who have been next to useless, ds was finally seen by camhs who said he is autistic and has aspergers. I did not know you could have both now feel really confused and not sure what happens next. Any advice really welcome thanks.

Aspergers is a type of autism.

Sorry it's taken 5 years. Have you got th Dx in writing?

Ineedalife · 02/07/2012 08:28

They siad autistic and has aspergers to tell you whereabouts on the autistic spectrum he is.

People who are autistic but are high functioning and had no speech delay have aspergers.

Although they are supposed to be changing the dx to ASD for everyone at some point.

Try to get a copy of Tony Attwood's Complete guide to aspergers.

Glad you finally have a dx and good luckSmile

Now go sort out the crappy senco when you get that report Grin

The senco who told me i either needed supernanny or or a padded room. Cant wait to see her face as she has blamed my parenting skills for everything.

Her face won't change. Sure coff can tell you better than I.

You need to take your Dx and run!

Sounds like he has selective mutism if he is mute outside the home as well. www.smira.org.uk

He wont speak to anyone outside of the house and will not speak to his teachers unless its to read to them.

Yes, reading is predictable and doesn't require him to start a conversation.

His teacher said he will read and will not engage in conversation, she cant get him to write anything either, he loves maths and would happily add things up all day if he could.
