Statement question

hi (Namechanged),

we have now received the final statement. don't know which idiot dreamed this up it is basically 100% (including typos) the same shit the LA had send us as a proposed statement (and which we rejected with a very detailed response).

anyway, it was the plan that DC was supposed to attend a SN unit within a MS school. however, nowere in the statement is there a mention of the SN unit, not in part 3 and not in part 4.

does this mean we now have a pure MS statement? statement otherwise does not say a lot (basically passes the bucket on to school to put the approbriate provision in place)

appeals forms are printed out and will go into the mail on monday. I saw it coming, so pretty cool about it all.

thanks!

If it is a final Statement it should name a school in Part 4. You should have been asked to name your preferred school when they sent you the proposed statement.

thank you, lougle. yes, it names the school in part 4 but I was expecting that it would also specifically mention the SN unit (all previous correspondenses, also from their side always mentioned the unit alongside the school but the unit has been omitted in the statement part 4; unit also not mentiioned in part 3. hence I am a bit Hmm. it now looks like a MS statement iykwim.

i would tread very carefully - my sons statement names the unit in part 4 - this was invaluable last year as we ended up in battle with the school as they dumped him in the mainstream and as the statement said unit it didnt specify TA hours so they gave him a part time TA - we ended up issuing judical review proceedings against the LEA to get the school to abide by the statement - he is now in the unit and happy but my relationship with school blown apart - thankfully only 14 school days left then he moves to a special school for secondary - as the statement stands the school are under no obligation to place your child in the unit - does it mention the level of TA support?

Hi my son attends a unit attached to mainstream and his statement names the mainstream.but unlike when he was in a mainstream school it doesn't specify any 1to1 hours like a special school statement

crapstatement · 30/06/2012 17:59

nope, no single hour 1:1 (dc has autism, very low functioning with very little s&l). was always told they would not specify the hours for unit children but now, as statement stands, we do not have the unit nor the 1:1 Angry there is nothing else specified/ quantified. it is ridiculus.

suppose having a statement that is shite should make a tribunal case easier...

Hmm, what language does it use? Does it make mention of anything that would be interpreted as specialist?

The reason I ask is that DD1's didn't mention any 1:1 but used phrases that would have been impossible to guarantee in MS. When I phoned the SEN officer, she confirmed that she hoped we would accept SS for DD1.
