4yrs for dyslexia assessment...

this has been up there for assessment for 4yrs....1 was done 2.5yrs ago but came up with an unusual result and as the powers that be were so stumped by it I have been pushing for specialist referral/opinion or re-assessment...

So it's the final week before summer hols at the end of P7...my DS comes home laden with school work and art folder, etc....and out plops this big envelope with my name on it....curious I wonder..???

Opened it up and there I am...reading a dyslexic profile report!!

FFS...couldn't someone have spoken to me?...when did my DS have this done?...why was I not advised about this happening?...why couldn't I be told face to face...I have to get this sudden bloody shock by letter stuffed in his bag....which may never have reached me when he has a habit of losing/forgetting school letters, etc and they know this!!!!.....

spitting nails and feeling a bit tearful...there it is in black and white...he is dyslexic and I have alot of reading, etc to do

Just so bloody angry anyone thinks it's ok to just do this to an unsuspecting parent and not bother to talk to me about it.

ranting much!!!

that's appalling Shock probably a cock up but appalling none the less
have they included their info on how they are now going to be supporting ds?

soozeedol · 27/06/2012 17:33

no...just seem to be a booklet on dyslexia and transition...a guide for timetables, equipment and stuff for DS to help him to organise his books, bag, etc.

It's not a cock up...it's a tiny school...he has 3 teachers, support teacher and HT...you'd think it would have occurred to 1 of them to give a sh*t and make sure I was involved in what they are doing with my DS....

Do you ever wonder how much LESS stress you would feel about things if it wasn't for all these ppl involved that seem so good at p*ing you off?.....it's def how I'm feeling right now...

is he moving to his next school then? Shock

soozeedol · 27/06/2012 20:19

yes we have been through the process and he now has an exceptional needs statement which has come back with a very good funding award...which translates to mean that he will have support full-time and as much as he needs within each subject. They have an excellent support base and I've met and visited the high school a number of times and feel quite confident about it all now. My DS has been going up for visits since christmas and says he is excited and looking forward to going up so its all looking good.

We have been very lucky to get all this and the support staff and teacher's I've met are all very good....

Academically he scores pretty low but this has been more to do with not being able to demonstrate and access the curriculum very well. He is very capable and I think with the support he will now be getting at high school, it will make enormous difference to that success.

Hi...yes Scotland....

I think things are quite different up here...from reading other posts, etc. I'm not sure it matters though, as it does seem that everyone is coming up against a lot of the same red tape and nonsense.....???

Today just really stuck in my throat because this HT has been quite destructive in her handling of quite a few things and I knew this was yet another fuck up because of the attitude she seems to have....2 days left though and then we never have to deal with her again....yeehaaa.....deep breaths and chillax...it's over with... Smile

yes...ditto
I have just sent her an email to let her know how disappointed I was that she didn't find the time to ask me into school to discuss dyslexia result and perceived it ok to just send the report home amongst my DSs' artwork and stuff...
I made my point very clear...in the nicest possible way!!! lol ... and I feel better

HT just phoned and left message re my email....absolute 'pants' and she would be more than happy to discuss it...blah...blah

I phoned back and said to sec...it's ok, it's done now. I have no need to discuss it with her and that I know she is too busy anyway.

I am thinking of sending a letter to the education department about it all though...even if it makes a difference for any parents for the future...it's worth it for their sake I think.
